Could be a rare Record 8 speed titanium. 9 speed notch shape, 8 speed spacing.
EDIT- Ignore me, just re read it properly.

Maybe you can swap the freehub like on shimano hubs?

Deffo an 8 speed, you'll either need to get a newer freehub body, or get 8 speed stuff.

Yes indeed, is a 8 speed Campi but you can use a compatible 9, the person who sold it to you, wasn't lying, just omitting part of the information. I have the same on hope hub.
Is a bastard, i know -

OK, so it's just what I thought.
And if you look closely, they are 7 marks left from the spacers on the hub too (so probably he used with 8 speed cassette or the 9th cog was protruding above the lockring. What are my options regarding the cranks and mechs - something late 80/90s apart from Athena and Mirage? Chorus, Record?
Anybody has a groupset?Or anybody has a spare 9 speed cassette with original evenly spaced splines?

And I've just sold an 8 speed C Record mechs thinking, that I'm not going to use them :-)
How to begin?
OK, I've got a Shamal 16h wheel with a Pista high flange hub, but because it laced madly, I've decided to use a proper road dedicated 16h hub and put some gears on the bike.
Now, I found a hub which supposedly is a Chorus one. Guy who sold it said, that it's a 9 speed one. When I inspected it I found out, that the newer 9 speed cassettes will not fit, because they have differently spaced notches and of different shape. This freehub is bit wider and has even spacing. Is it 8 speed one or there are some older 9 speed cassettes?

If it's the 8 speed, then I need new crankset and ergo levers...
