    COLNAGO ROAD FRAME 1973
    Seat Tube (ctc) : 53cm (21in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 54.5cm (21.4in)
    Rear dropout width: 125mm
Wheel size: Sprints or 700C front and rear (brake drop of approx 50mm)
    Bottom bracket threads: Italian
    Frame Tubing: Columbus SL
Colnagos from the early 1970s are really rather uncommon - this one dates I think from 1973. Its been repainted I think about twenty years ago and little used since then. At the same time it was converted to take allen bolt fixing brakes. Its in very nice condition with just a few marks to the paint and decals. Would make a very cool conversion to fixed or singlespeed. £345

    EDDY MERCKX PROFESSIONAL 1987
    Seat Tube (ctc): 53cm
    Top Tube (ctc): 54cm
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
    Wheel size: 700C
    Seatpost size: 27.2mm
    Bottom bracket threads: Italian
Brake drop with 700C wheel: 45mm
Eddy Merckx frames are really rather nicely made and ride really nicely. This one dating from about 1987 is in exceptionally sound condition though the paint is a little tatty. Its almost certainly built from Columbus SLX tubing. £165

    GRAHAM WEIGH ROAD FRAME 1990s
    Seat Tube (ctt): 49.5cm (19.5in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 52cm (20.5in)
    Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop 45mm)
    Seatpost size: 27.2mm
    Frame tubing: Reynolds 531C
This Graham Weigh frame was almost certainly built at Paul Donohue’s works in the middle 1990s - the standard of construction is very good. The paint is a little tatty but road frames as small as this are not very common. It has a smallish dent to the side of the top tube but is otherwise in excellent condition. It will make an easy fixed or singlespeed conversion with its horizontal dropouts. £65 SOLD

NONAME DUTCH/BELGIAN ROAD FRAME 1970s ** New and Unused**
    Seat Tube (ctc): 53cm (21in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 55.5cm (21.75in)
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
    Wheel size: 700C
    Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Brake drop with 700C wheels: 50mm
    Bottom bracket threads: English
This rather nice road frame has never been used or built-up. It probably was built in either the Netherlands or Belgium – the long Campy dropouts suggest it is from the first half of the 1970s. It is certainly built from good quality double butted frame tubing and the standard of construction is very good. The paint has quite a number of shopwear marks but is in very useable condition. It would make a really easy conversion to singlespeed or fixed. £75 SOLD

MOTOBECANE SPECIAL PRO ROAD FRAME c1983
    Seat Tube (ctc): 59cm (23.25in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 59cm (23.25in)
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: Sprints or 700C (brake drop of approx 48mm)
    Frame tubing: Columbus SL
    Seatpost size: 26.8mm
Motobecane frames were ridden in the 1970s to a Tour De France win and their Team was one of the top continental pro road teams. This frame, the European equivalent of the Team Pro sold in the USA is built from Columbus SL tubing and dates from around 1977. Its in absolutely gorgeous condition with only a very few very minor marks to the paint. An easy singlespeed or fixed conversion. £145

CHESINI GRAN PREMIO ROAD FRAME c1990
    Seat Tube (ctc): 58cm
    Top Tube (ctc): 57cm
    Rear dropout width: 128mm
    Wheel size: 700C
Brake drop with 700C/Sprint wheel: 46mm
    Seatpost size: 27.0mm
    Frame Tubing: Columbus Cromor
Chesini frames are built in Verona. This GranPremio frame from about 1990 is in very sound condition with generally very good paint and no dents or dings. Its built from Columbus Cromor double butted tubing. Its ideal for a singlespeed or fixed conversion with its horizontal dropouts. £125 SOLD

RALEIGH SPECIAL PRODUCTS ROAD FRAME 1995
    Seat Tube (ctt): 61cm (24in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 60cm (23.5in)
    Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C (brake drop 45mm)
    Seatpost size: 27.2mm
    Frame tubing: Reynolds Optima
This is a very nice road frame built at Raleigh Special Products in 1995 almost certainly from what Raleigh called Reynolds Optima tubing - this was an excellent quality double butted chrome moly tubing suitable for Tig welding. These frames ride really rather well and are superb value - this one does not seem to have had much use. Horizontal dropouts makes it an easy conversion if required. £79 SOLD

    ROBIN KING ROAD FRAME 1970s
    Seat Tube (ctt): 57cm (22.5in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 55cm (21.5in)
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
    Wheel size: 700C
    Seatpost size: 27.0mm
Brake drop with 700C wheels: 45mm
    Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double-butted
I do not know anything of this frame’s builder or the shop from Margate in Kent. It has vertical dropouts and would I think date from about 1976. It certainly needs repainting but the price reflects this. £49

RALEIGH TEAM REPLICA ROAD FRAME 1984/5
    Seat Tube (ctt): 58cm (23in)
    Top Tube (ctc): 57cm (22.5in)
    Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: Sprints or 700C front and rear (brake drop of approx 45mm)
    Bottom bracket threads: English
    Frame Tubing: Reynolds 531C
Raleigh produced many frames in the very attractive Team colours in the 1970s and 80s but the nice ones were only made in small numbers. This is one of the Team Replica frames produced in the Lightweight unit after it moved to Nottingham and was built in 1984 - it seems it was sold in 1985 as it has the Reynolds 50th anniversary tubing decal on the down tube. These were built in small batches to order and were made from Reynolds 531C tubing. This one is in sound condition though the paint has suffered a little. Careful retouching would make this frame look quite presentable. It would make a very easy singlespeed or fixed conversion. £89

  • humm both the Mercx and the Colnago both my size and it's pay day....damn im tempted

  • Hi Hilary, I didn't know Ernesto Colnago made frames in the 1870's? *'Colnagos from the early 1870s are really rather uncommon'. *Anyway, love the look of it. adeus amigo Ian

  • this bike is from the 1870's not sure if its a Colnago tho?

  • Like the straight 'Precisa' forks on it... very 1870's

  • Yes 1870s Colnagos would be very rare....

  • Hilary, I would be interested in the white Raleigh Special Products frame. Don't think I can PM you but I have spotted your email on a separate thread and will contact you directly for payment details.

    Thanks, Alan

  • dibs on the NONAME DUTCH/BELGIAN ROAD FRAME 1970s ** New and Unused** pm on it's way

  • dibs on graham weigh frame!

  • hey, could you reply to my messages

  • Could I dip on the Merckx please?

  • Please note there was typo on the Chesini's price - it was meant to be £125 not £225...

  • i used to go to school in margate, the robin king will be nice for anyone thats keen. the colnago looks lovely also

  • Dib on graham, please. I've already pmed. Thank you.

  • Dibs on the Chessini please PM on da way

  • sorry hilary, don't think the 'colnago' looks right and at £345 that's quite a big leap of faith

shifter and top tube braze-ons together aren't indicative of an early 1970's model

clubs pointed base isn't very encouraging

fork crown tangs; clubs instead of holes, never seen that

is there a number on either drop-out?

  • This frame is without doubt a Colnago Super - it has as I state in the description been repainted and modernised to fit allen bolt brakes. Colnago were an early adopter of DT shifter braze-ons and introduced them first in 1973 which is what all the other details on the frame and forks point to. The fork tang with the club cutout is very typical of 1973 Supers. The TT braze-ons are a later addition which I expect were made at the time the frame was converted to allen-bolt brakes and repainted. Colnago used only two TT cable guides when they introduced them a few years later.

Please see the timeline on Classic Rendezvous as to Colnago dating:

    http://search.bikelist.org/?SearchString=colnago%20timeline&Scope=classicrendezvous

This has been developed by a group of CR members who had a massive amount of experience of early 1970s Colnagos.

There is a number on the offside dropout.

What does need to be understood that in he early 1970s Colnago was still a relatively small operation and the cutouts varied quite a lot. By the late 70s/early 80s Colnago production had increased probably five to ten fold and everything was then very standardised. In the early 70s a lot of handwork still went into each frame.

  • Sorry the most up to date version of the Colnago dating timeline is at:

  • hi hilary,

  • dibs on the RALEIGH TEAM REPLICA ROAD FRAME 1984/5 - if its still available

will send PM later today but also looking at few other items of yours to ship together

    Thanks

  • Hi Hilary.

Im interested but new to the forums so Im having problems PM!!

There are a few little bits and bobs I like the look of.

    Please let me know.

    cheers

    Pecca

  • Have just updated the posting to reflect the sold frames - please note the Merckx in particular is still available due to a chronic timewaster...

  • Dibs on the robin king!!!!!!!

  • I love quotes like 'Would make a very cool conversion to fixed or singlespeed' on the Colnago. No it would NOT make a great conversion!!! It would look crap. It has a whole host of braze-ons and would be much better returned to original spec. with GEARS!

  • I am not advocating sawing off the braze-ons but these earlier geared frames will often look great when ridden fixed - quite a few were probably ridden fixed back in the 70s during the winter because pro riders did still ride fixed in the winter then...
