You may well have done this already though just in case if you haven't already it's worth calling Battersea. My cat Leon went missing, I spent weeks putting up posters and looking for him round the neighbourhood. About 3 months later I got a card from Battersea saying they had him(he was chipped) unfortunately after rushing there the next day they said they didn't actaually have him, turned out they picked him about 2 weeks after he went missing, failed to find his chip(?!) and sold him to another family. The reason I got the card is that the vet of new family found the chip when trying to put a new one in. In the end I left him with the new family he had been living with for 2 months as it just seemed the least painful option for him and them plus it didn't seem like i had many options apart from demanding him back from the new family.
I normally lurk here looking in the classifieds but this caught my eye and just wanted to pass on as it might help and I know the pain of losing a cat, hope he turns up soon.
I am pretty sure that Anna called Battersea, I know she called the RSPCA. But I'll check*.
Turns out she registered him with Battersea using an online form.
They didn't find the chip? That is... disappointing. What an awful position to find yourself in. My sympathies.
