Indeed, If MCR say no, then it's a no.

I don't care whether MCR decides world teams (well, I like that having MCR do it is simple!), but, being pragmatic, I'd like to point out:
Results come from MCR regardless. It gives a ranking of teams in the UK (who played at this tourney, which is most of them). Regardless of the MCR organizers' opinions, this ranking exists. Unless there is another tournament at some point that acts as a qualifier, or some other method is come up with to choose teams, then the results will be the best way of knowing which teams we should send.
Just saying, not taking a position.

So you're on the fence, but still eating the sweet pastures.

Agree with Mark.
Plus, organising another tournament to rank teams before the deadline is going to exclude a lot of people. Does anyone have any ideas of how to rank teams another way, taking into account our unfortunate position on timing?
If only the London league was national!

I'm not quite sure how that's applicable to what I just said (beyond the first and last sentences, which are included to make it clear that what I said has nothing to do with the bigger argument, which is whether it's "right" to have MCR decide).

We could always rank by city.
I've requested the list of interested teams from the leagueofbikepolo.com form.*
(*edit) X number of slots could be allocated to cities by that list and let each city sort themselves out.*Gabes, since you're in contact with Morgan would you mind hitting him up as well?

• #111
are you saying in the same way as we decided who plays the euro qualifiers (those who expressed prior interest?)
seems a fair way to choose the UK interest in the Worlds rather than a list for the UK champs.

Yea, similar. I would like to suggest the option of having a couple first-come-first-serve slots to add to that list for the quali...

This would make the entire process of "expressing interest" futile, because a couple of teams got counted because of luck.

Futile is the wrong word. Pointless is better.

But still not right.

Also, first come first served surely can't really work when whoever posted the thread will get the first place, and then the next few will all be within the space of a few hours, not like there is much time difference in them. ridiculous suggestion.

I voted 'for' the proposition. However, I also agree with all those who have said that this is a less than ideal solution.
The reason I voted 'for' is because, possibly as result of a lack of imagination, I can't see what we could come up with that would not result in us, the UK polo community, having to organise another tournament, open to all in the UK. There may be some that think that Gabes acted presumptuously in posting the poll, but I think that all he did was act according to the demands of time. We do need to decide, and soon, how we are going to choose the teams for this year's Worlds. I once again say that if anyone is to blame for the whole farrago it is me, as I should acted sooner to do some grass-roots research into the possibilities of forming a UK Hard Court Polo Federation.
Given that the MCR crew have organised a UK-only (well, almost!) tourney, in what looks like a perfect venue, surely it would be foolish, given the time-frame, to duplicate their efforts?
As far as those teams or players that are being excluded, I hear that there is a wild-card play-off in Berlin. Has anyone got any concrete information on that?

absolutely, We have been given a country allocation and we should send our best teams regardless.
I THINK what Mike is saying is instead of using teams that have signed up for the UK champs (some may have no interest or cannot go to the Worlds) we should select from those who actually expressed prior interest and filled out Kev's form.

Yes Bill. Spot on. Its far from an ideal situation, but are we going to get a better opportunity than UK champs?
I havent voted yet.
I am waiting to see if there are any more teams who want to play but are not going to UK champs.
If I vote yes, it's ONLY because we need to make a decision before April 30th. I honestly don't think we'll get a better opportunity than the UK champs. Trying to squeeze in another tourney (where everyone plays everyone = ideal) before the deadline will no doubt exclude even more people/teams.
We are in an unfortunate position with timing and selection, and I am the first to argue that everyone should be given the chance, but as far as we currently know, we are giving everyone who wants to play a chance.

We differ on opinion here. I'm not keen on ranking by country. (yet)
first come to what first served for what?
My suggestion was regarding the possibility of a London quali for WHBPC.
This would make the entire process of "expressing interest" futile, because a couple of teams got counted because of luck.
Not really, the 'expressing interest' was to gauge the amount of teams coming from somewhere, what difference does it make if a team that got together in the last month or the next couple months would like to have a shot at playing in the worlds? Even Berlin are offering wildcard spots so does that make 'expressing interest' futile/pointless?
Also, first come first served surely can't really work when whoever posted the thread will get the first place, and then the next few will all be within the space of a few hours, not like there is much time difference in them. ridiculous suggestion.

I know it was mentioned earlier, but I don't remeber what the conccencus was, but what is happening with the issues of foreign players? obviously not players who are foreign and live and play int he UK, but players who are coming to the UK Champs, but are also able to win a position in the worlds through a competition in their own home country? surely they should have to decide to be for one country or another, and if they come in the top 6 of the champs then they are skipped?

yorgo's not allowed to help zombies if he's qualifying in france with apologies if that's what you're getting at ;)
that pretty much settles it in my eyes, surely the tournament organisers decide in this instance.
If it hasn't been organised as such, and they don't want it to be, then it isn't. Who are we to tell them what the tournament is.
