4am this morning on Mare st, I get out of the saddle and PING! Landed on my lock just above my coccyx. can hardly walk, ripped my coat, hit my head, popped my shoulder out and in, somehow my jaw is hurting, bump on elbow.
I possibly put it on too tight, but have emailed Campy.
F*ckin glad it wasn't down Hyde Park underpass!
Anyway, how are you? I heard you parted company with Goby's?

Yet another Record crank failure. How old were these?

Maybe just over a year old. I probably won't have any claim as I didn't use a torque wrench, it wasn't on the track, my brake cable wasn't campag, etc etc.

There are far too many of the current Campag Record track cranks snapping. And I'm not talking underneath any Hoy-types. You, mikec, illy I can recall.
I'd start compiling a worldwide list and organising a recall + suitable compensation.
Well fucking dodgy, Campagfaillo.

Shit. I had a similar crash a couple of weeks ago due to a loose pedal. Not fun. Just recovered.
I'm ok thanks Matt, and yeah I haven't worked for Goby's for a couple of months now. I'll be returning to the circuit later this year hopefully, just having some downtime due to living arrangements etc. Take it easy

If the modern ones are snapping I wonder how long it's gonna be 'til my C-Record Pistas snap...!

I might be interested - what do you want for it? Where are you?
I'm gonna be fine, thanks, just bruises.

I'll have a look at the condition, but it is of the c-record era. Later you know tomorrow. I am in SE London, the other side of the river from you unfortunately. Glad all is ok.

It seems that I could've seen the crack beginning if I'd checked my cranks periodically.
Let this be a warning.

Let this be a warning to people actually considering the purchase of Campagnolo products.

Did you grease the BB spindle when you put them on?

Yes. I wouldn't trust these things at all. My left side crank failed after about 18 months. I managd to get a warranty job. Hope you are ok

I used a small amount of copper grease. I have been on about this subject on the bikelist framebuilder's forum, with many experts and engineering professionals, and opinion is still very divided on this subject.
After reading all the info, I have decided not to grease tapers in future, but maybe people should read this:
http://www.sheldonbrown.com/brandt/installing-cranks.html
I've also decided NOT to fit a Record Pista left crank, but to fit another NEW ISO left crank with more material around the BB end, and possibly to bin this at the next BB change. I'm approaching 90kg with all my courier gear and I pull away quite hard.
Mine snapped clean off at the BB spindle and put me on my ass.
Does anyone have an odd one?
Thanks,
Matt
