Mebbe Will Smith will go all method and lock his fucking self in a room for 15 years before making it, if indeed it's true that they are.

He was planning to star in it allegedly...

In fairness, I like Will Smith. I particularly enjoyed the music promo for his hit single Wild Wild West.

Last time I checked, Will Smith was also on to direct the remake of Karate Kid with his son in the titular role, with Martin Laurence as Miyagi.

Kick Ass - best superhero film ever? Quite possibly....
-
• #715
quite possibly the most hyped film ever too.

Sounds like pure wankenschaft!

^^^Epic judgement fail. It's truly excellent. Definite five stars. Even for the fact that Nicholas Cage was in it and I didn't hate him.
quite possibly the most hyped film ever too.
I believe that was Watchmen, which was meh.

There's a reason for the tendency for hyped films to disappoint; (that is, besides the increased expectation).
It's a typical hollywood business model. Make a film on a reasonable budget, pump the promotions so much that you take 10 times the budget of the film in the opening weekend before the film inevitavely dives when people realise how shite it is. It's reproducable without having to rely on the integrity of the content, which cost lots for talent and can be hit and miss.
Although often people just swallow the hype. Of course, they've also moved on to building francise pictures with sequals and spins off as another means of guaranteeing big returns.
Fact.

The thing about Kick ass and I say this as a fan from issue 1 of the comic is that most of the hype came from the fact that they actually managed to make the film. This is lets not forget a film where an 11 year old girl says the word CUNT. It is incredibly well made and a joy to watch, Its a rare occasion only happening once before (Hot Fuzz) where the audience actually applaud not in a sad way but in a way that they cannot help.
Before you critique it go watch it and I challenge you not to smile.
Fact.

I judge a film based on its ability to invoke 'Awesome' as a Facebook status update. If I see 'Awesome' then I know I don't need to watch it.....

Watched the Hurt Locker last week. Started really well. Tense, gripping and beautifully shot. Then it sort of went a bit macho and silly. Top Gun with bombs. Not much in the way of plot either. Still enjoyed it overall though and it made me think about the realities of that conflict a bit more than I previously had. Will probably re-watch before too long.
Got a serious man on DVD ready to go also got a 3 film Cohens box set for a tenner. Fargo, Miller's Crossing and Raising Arizina. Had forgotten just how unbelievably awesome Fargo is. Oh Jah?
