Just to confirm what I suspected weeks ago--unfortunately, I won't be able to make this one. My elbow is healing, but not enough to get back on a bike yet. :(
I'm gutted I can't come along and hope you all have a brilliant ride.

Has anyone else seen the weather forecast for Saturday night?
Obviously I'm an alpha male and will ride in the shitty rain if everyone else wants too, but we need to have a recap headcount on friday observing the forecasts. Would suck not to do it eh?

Light rain shower apparently, as long as its not chucking it down my jersey can take it. Don't want to bake under my waterproofs.

Still waiting on a rear mech and a BB and someone to fit them. Time's a tickin'.

light rain for saturday has been updated to 'thundery shower'. thunderous shower. shunderous tower. plunderous glower.

What would Jesus do?

What would Jesus do?
I suspect Jesus would ask us to start a cult, or give our bikes to deprived children. Either way I don't think Jesus is 'on board'. Besides, Easter is not about gods, it's about choclit. Choclit and rabbits.
Not sure about this rain - don't mind a few showers but the idea of cycling through a persistent storm isn't very appealing! Or am I just being a ninny?

I wish I'd had the presence of mind to fabricate a story about a BB and a rear mech that might arrive in time for the ride, depending on the weather. ;)

Metcheck still doesn't show any rain on Saturday night. Just in case rain does happen, it's not a deal breaker. As long as you have decent stuff to wear (I wouldn't recommend citywear), you'll be fine. A decent baselayer (essential--if you don't have one, get one) under a good-quality long sleeve jersey or a jacket, a cap for the head, good gloves, and ideally some legwear that doesn't rub over your knees when it gets soaked--this is quite important and a pretty good argument for the old lycra. Overshoes also help. Take a spare pair of socks.
Other than that, it's not a big deal. I actually really enjoy riding in a bit of rain--it always seems worse than it really is when you're not in it. You'll also get the added benefit of being able to greatly exaggerate what conditions were like when miseducating your grandchildren. This is how myths are born. 'Grandpa Gilgamesh, Grandpa Gilgamesh, how was it again when you went out for that ride?' :)

^ sounds like good advice - thanks for the tips on clothing.
I'm very new to road cycling so am learning what to wear for what occasion. Unfortunately my mankini is at the dry cleaners. Arses.

Make sure you don't wear too much stuff over the baselayer that's non-breathable, or you'll sweat too much, and despite the baselayer 'wicking' away the sweat, you'll get too wet under the non-breathable stuff. As it should be fairly cold on the night (and will 'feel' cold), it's especially important to feel slightly cold at the start and not too warm, warming up as you go--if you get too hot, you'll sweat too much, trapped sweat will turn cold, and you'll feel uncomfortable.
