For Sale: Pinarello 55cm Columbus SL

  • This is a very nice Pinarello 55cm road frame with lots of engraving on the fork crown and seat stay caps with some gorgeous lug cutouts and even the Pinarello logo in the seat stay bridge stiffeners. It dates from about 1983, form what we can find its likely to be a 'Super Record Pro' or a 'Treviso' model. The chrome is excellent so must have been redone previously. The frame itself has been professionally stripped, powder coated sky blue gloss and the lug details filled in white. The frame is finished with NOS original decals and it will also include a Shimano 105 headset. It is a truly beautiful and potentially hard wearing, useable frame. Metal head tube badge needs attaching (ideally with rivets), but I will include a NOS decal for this too and also Columbus decals for the forks that I have but have not fitted.

  • Nice!

  • Thanks, its been a labour of love - but its got to go as my damn ebay trigger finger went mad last week...

  • Well restored. Good luck with the sale.

  • My friend would love this. Dibs for him

  • super nice, looks NOS!

"The chrome is excellent so must have been redone previously"

haha, yes pinarello chrome is famous for that...

  • Beauty!

Prob the first time I've seen a Pinarello that old and with intact decals too-even if they are refurb! Nice job on the paintwork too, I always think powdercoats can look a bit flat but that's come up really well.

I'm curious to know what you've just bought to replace it with-must be nice ;)

  • Pinarello chrome cleans op nicely, even when it was covered in rust, so it probably is the original chrome

  • Thats pretty, in a useful size too.

though I don't know about the chrome.....they usually end up a little shall we say...though hey sometimes it does hold out well...

who knows or dares to dream....;D

  • well at least the chrome on my treviso cleaned up really well :)

  • Thanks for all the feedback, glad its gotten the thumbs up. The frame is now sold, but I still have a Peugeot to move. Just on the replacement, hold your breath.... its a Raleigh!

  • My Treviso is from ca. 1985 (Olympic sticker from 1984, so it can't be older than that) and the only decal which rubbed off was the signature on the top tube. They are not clear coated and all the edges became brittle..

  • Be careful. It may well have been built by a "Guido's" (sic)...

  • I hope so.

  • I think a key dating feature is whether or not it has a braze on front mech, introduced in 84? wouldn't go by stickers alone. The original decals are delicate and now pretty old, surprised they have not been redrawn and more available in lazer cut vinyl.

  • Mine is clamp on front mech and originally had Super Record groupset. The sticker below the lug on the down tube is "Campione Olimpico, Campione d'Italia 1984" apart from the usual red one incorporated in the Pinarello decal on the seat tube (about the Italian and European Championships 1981).

Far as I know these stickers are on the treviso right up until the early nineties-I had a Treviso I sold early last year (with full 7400 Dura Ace and braze on so guessing '86) and weirdly enough all the decals came off on just one side, leaving the other virtually mint? I could only figure it was the side that was nearest my garage wall that was getting damp or something... I've seen replacement sets on French eBay.

  • i bought a decal set from http://defietsenmaker.nl/index.php?action=home&lang=EN when i was at the 'stalen ros' bikeshow, he had more of them in a box, its rub on decals, very old ones
