  • that place is HUGE. Popped in today and couldn't believe it was so big given the size of the entrance

  • Booo... Cyclesurgery and Evans muscling in on Cavendish Cycles...

  • pfft there's fcuking discount on everything all the time using their pricematch people.

  • ^^ +1

  • sweet just saved some money it works

  • I took my bike into Evans Cycles to get an insurance quote two weeks ago after being hit by a car. The bike went under the car so I was pretty shocked when Evans told me I only needed a new front wheel and crankset. I asked if they'd done an alignment test as the frame looked bent. They said they had. I took it to Chamberlain Cycles in Kentish Town on Friday for a 2nd opinion. They said the bike is beyond repair and don't ride it as the carbon is screwed and out of alignment. The mechanic said it's bleedingly obvious, just look at it.

Can't believe Evans missed this. Frigging reckless cowboys.

  • Cant say Im surprised

  • I'd find it hard to trust Evans' opinion on which innertube to purchase, frame alignment? Forget it.

  • Which one?

  • which evans?

  • I know that there are people from the shop on this site, so I will try no to be rude, but in my experience the people working in Chamberlain are a bunch of blaggers.

  • Evans has some good mechanics and some bad. Like everywhere.

  • ^^ on that note, try not to deal with "engineer kaspar" at the new west end branch

the thing about working at evans is a lot of employee's just dont give a shit.

  • British standards on frame alignment is 3/4mm. So one mechanic reading 3mm as being borderline but still ridable within standards can differ from another reading this as on the edge of acceptability but a write off. In that instance it's a matter of experience & circumstance.

TBH if the bike is full carbon throw it out anyway, while perhaps being within standards it could be fatigued internally.

  • I can't believe this is even open for debate. If your carbon frame gets dragged under a car, it's fucked.

It doesn't matter if it doesn't "look fucked" (fair enough you were getting a crash assessment done) it isn't a case of "having it looked at", the bike is unrideable.

Even if by some miracle it works fine, it will eventually, as a result of being DRAGGED UNDER A CAR, fail.

And Max worked at Evans and is an expert....

  • Fuck you, Stefan.

  • Fuck you, Stefan.

That'll be in your dreams tonight Max ;p

  • Ha!

  • It was the Chalk Farm Evans. The girl who works there is great (Joanna?), but on that day I got someone else. Lots of delays with mechanic not getting back to me and in the end it was an incorrect assessment. It was out by more than 4mm. The rear wheel sits crooked, rubbing on the frame. Just hacked off as I don't know of any other Bianchi dealer and will most likely have to go back to them... well, another Evans store at least.

  • martin, the mechanic at waterloo (roadie) store is great

  • In my experience, they are nice there but know nothing about anything. I've ended up giving advice to their staff before about all kinds of cycling related things. They were friendly, but it all felt a bit wrong. Like shagging your best mate's sister. Or something.
