i don't see how that is any different from using THIS announced tournament rather than that one. also UK champs are far more accessible, the teams going to the euros (9 UK teams) have more or less been determined, and it would be impossible for anyone not in london, mcr, birmingham, oxford or cambridge to qualify

Harvey is cambridge.
Quite important
-
• #54
yeah im with Josh on that, i think the 6 best Euro teams would be a bit harsh, those who arn't going to the Euros are already being excluded from one tourney this summer, they should have a chance to compete!

more polls fairer polo!
-
• #56
less poles more polo
hey agata, you better sort ryan out!
-

I'm not convinced that the circle and single elim is the best format for a qualification tourney and for this reason I'm voting no, I appreciate that it may be the best option available right now, but I'd like to optimistically think we could find a perfect solution in time... I accept this is doubtful.
-
• #58
i agree with that. 8 teams from 36 doesn't make much sense, especially if it's only single elim! that's only 7 games (1.5 hours) of playoff polo. maybe a format change would be considered if tournament's focus changes from trying to get everyone 4 games to world qualifications

Ahh, but Rik, those voters may be the NED's/Joe's who don't currently play but think come August they'll have a chance of beating the top teams.
Maybe. ;-)
And all this time I thought we were friends, Sarah... Pfff! ;P

Quoted from the World's thread:
Has anyone who's not going to mcr complained about making it the quals for the worlds?
Theoretically I don't think it's fair, but it doesn't matter if all the people who want to go to the worlds are going to mcr.
This poll favours all the people who are already registered for the UK champs. It is biased against the small number of people who are not registered, but who still want a crack at the Worlds. Asking the question after registration is closed is fait accomplis.
What we should be asking is, are there any teams who would like to play in the Worlds who are not currently registered in the UK champs. If there are, then we need to work out a way to include them.

Correct.

are there any though? AFAIK no teams expressed their interest in joining after the cut off date/36teams quota

That was for registration for the UK Champs. We're now saying that you can't compete for a place in the Worlds if you didn't already register for the UK Champs, but these were not the conditions before registration.
I think we should be trying to contact every club and player and ask if they would want the opportunity compete in the Worlds, not asking whether we should use an existing opportunity which already has teams registered. If there's no-one else interested, then great - the UK champs would seem like a pretty good option, but if there is, we need to find another way.

that is what is happening. i think every known community in the UK has at least one team in the UKC except leeds, and an email regarding this went out to all the registered teams so all should have a representative who knows about what is happening by now. it is up to those people to let their communities know about the situation and express concern if necessary.
london, manchester, oxford, cambridge, birmingham, edinburgh, glasgow, newcastle, leeds, sheffield, and brighton all should know by now, so the question is, is there anyone else?

what about N. Ireland and ROI?
-
• #67
what about ROI?
even canadians know that's not the UK
-
• #68
Yes, but they havnt been given any team allocation have they? so i preusme they are lumped in with us

• #69
they would apply to berlin for national spots like every other country.
nottingham has a club with 1 member on dotca, anyone have a contact?

fair point

that is what is happening.
That's not what's happening. People are being directed to a site that already has a poll up with a specific question about whether the UK champs should decide places for the Worlds.
I think this one specific question is biased, as outlined in previous posts. I think we should be asking people if they want to play in the Worlds, even if they didn't register for the UK champs (since one was never the condition for the other).

31 to 7, I don't think people are that bothered by your point dude. Though I can see your point, for this year I still think the UK champs is the easiest way to go. Next year, the worlds, euros, etc should be more organised, and those responsible for each should be in better contact with the others, so they can work out a better way to sort out qualifications.
-
• #73
out of the 7, there is one has never play polo, as such I will consider him no a polo player and with no intention to go to Berlin

That's what we said last year. And it is kinda passing the buck on to next year's polo players instead of accepting responsibility and sorting it out proper.
I still blame the country alloc. system for this bit of unfairness/make do with what you got. Just by the fact that most people aren't organized enough to do national qualis. It's much easier to just sort your city out.
I agree with both Iain and Gabes, yes Iain is right in what should be asked and yes Gabes is right in saying that people don't seem to be bothered.

Yep, you're right, we did say that last year. I think there's a bigger picture thing here, and we need to look at how BIG tournies worlds/continental are qualified for, and potentially a larger body (HBPFed?) can work out some guidelines (not rules) for how these qualifications should work. But I don't think that discussion is for here. Lets talk about it another time.
what about having the 6 best UK teams at the euros go to the worlds? Just saying
