  • Pothole, York Road, Battersea (The one after the lights on the left hand side as you're coming away from the park if you know it).

    1) puncture
    2) tyre (<1 week old) split
    3) HUGE ding on rim

    ...gutted.

Incidentally does anyone know whether it's possible to fix a split tyre? I replaced as one was cut on a bit of glass last week. Both Vit Rubino Pros.

  • tyre damage

  • rim damage

  • Take photos of the pot hole, any damage to bike and claim money off the council.

  • has anyone actually achieved this? I've heard that you could have a case if tey previously knew of the pothole...

  • has anyone actually achieved this?

    yep, and with a landslide.

  • any advice (link to post/site you used) ed?

  • Did it years ago, got a solicitor friend to write the letters but with all the stuff on the net now - via Google, maybe? - you should be able to do it yourself. There is no doubt plenty of info on here already if you look hard enough. Do it; you should have no trouble getting the compensation you deserve if you put the effort in.

  • okay cool, first stage is I posted on here http://www.fillthathole.org.uk and I'll give the council a ring tomorrow.

Funnily enough the damage occurred in the borough I live (thus pay the tax) in :)

I'll let y'all know how i get on.

  • Make sure you have several photos of the hole, showing it's size and position in the road. Take them tomorrow in case the hole is filled in quickly; take them before you tell the council.
Get an invoice from a bike shop for the cost of replacing damaged parts; including the cost of building the new wheel.
Don't expect a quick result; there is an epidemic of potholes this winter and consequently an epidemic of claims for damages.
I had a very good witness to my accident and it still took half a year or so to get payed.

Can't fix a split tyre long term. There's quick fixes to get you home, but if it's split, it's fucked. Bad luck, benjam. At least you didn't get hurt, that's the main thing.

  • If you can, take photographs of the pothole with a tape measure to show the depth. The general guideline is that the defect will need to be over 40mm deep to be sufficiently dangerous.

  • Small glass cuts can be filled with superglue gel (maybe fix your older tyre?).

    Good luck with the claim.

  • yeah tire will be gubbed - I had a big slice in a new tire, tried some superglue and some patches on the inside, like GL says enough to get you home on low pressure but if you try pump the tire up to normal pressures it just pops again.

  • some huge holes around - more info on claiming from the council on similar thread here that might help:
