I agree with most of the article, but am not sure that the IAM should be encouraging cyclists to remain 0.5 metres from the curb if they are not approaching a junction. Staying this close to the curb encourages drivers to overtake when it is not safe to do so.
Also, when a motoring organisation starts giving tips to cyclists it reinforces that safe cycling is in the hands of the cyclist. Shouldn't they be advising motorists to overtake when it is safe to do so? According to the highway code cars should leave a 1.5 metre gap when overtaking bikes.
