I guess I'm thinking of a multiple lane scenario. So if you need to be in the middle or outside lane, then I tend to be in the lane, asserting my position, but giving them room to get by.

I see what you mean. I think having a good positive approach to positioning, including clear indication, eye contact with drivers behind, and saying thanks for patient driving, help make this type of idiocy less common.
