sorry hilary, don't think the 'colnago' looks right and at £345 that's quite a big leap of faith
shifter and top tube braze-ons together aren't indicative of an early 1970's model
clubs pointed base isn't very encouraging
fork crown tangs; clubs instead of holes, never seen that
is there a number on either drop-out?

This frame is without doubt a Colnago Super - it has as I state in the description been repainted and modernised to fit allen bolt brakes. Colnago were an early adopter of DT shifter braze-ons and introduced them first in 1973 which is what all the other details on the frame and forks point to. The fork tang with the club cutout is very typical of 1973 Supers. The TT braze-ons are a later addition which I expect were made at the time the frame was converted to allen-bolt brakes and repainted. Colnago used only two TT cable guides when they introduced them a few years later.

This has been developed by a group of CR members who had a massive amount of experience of early 1970s Colnagos.
There is a number on the offside dropout.
What does need to be understood that in he early 1970s Colnago was still a relatively small operation and the cutouts varied quite a lot. By the late 70s/early 80s Colnago production had increased probably five to ten fold and everything was then very standardised. In the early 70s a lot of handwork still went into each frame.

I love quotes like 'Would make a very cool conversion to fixed or singlespeed' on the Colnago. No it would NOT make a great conversion!!! It would look crap. It has a whole host of braze-ons and would be much better returned to original spec. with GEARS!

I am not advocating sawing off the braze-ons but these earlier geared frames will often look great when ridden fixed - quite a few were probably ridden fixed back in the 70s during the winter because pro riders did still ride fixed in the winter then...

At the same time it was converted to take allen bolt fixing brakes. Its in very nice condition with just a few marks to the paint and decals. Would make a very cool conversion to fixed or singlespeed. £345

This Graham Weigh frame was almost certainly built at Paul Donohue’s works in the middle 1990s - the standard of construction is very good. The paint is a little tatty but road frames as small as this are not very common. It has a smallish dent to the side of the top tube but is otherwise in excellent condition. It will make an easy fixed or singlespeed conversion with its horizontal dropouts. £65 SOLD

This rather nice road frame has never been used or built-up. It probably was built in either the Netherlands or Belgium – the long Campy dropouts suggest it is from the first half of the 1970s. It is certainly built from good quality double butted frame tubing and the standard of construction is very good. The paint has quite a number of shopwear marks but is in very useable condition. It would make a really easy conversion to singlespeed or fixed. £75 SOLD

Motobecane frames were ridden in the 1970s to a Tour De France win and their Team was one of the top continental pro road teams. This frame, the European equivalent of the Team Pro sold in the USA is built from Columbus SL tubing and dates from around 1977. Its in absolutely gorgeous condition with only a very few very minor marks to the paint. An easy singlespeed or fixed conversion. £145

This is a very nice road frame built at Raleigh Special Products in 1995 almost certainly from what Raleigh called Reynolds Optima tubing - this was an excellent quality double butted chrome moly tubing suitable for Tig welding. These frames ride really rather well and are superb value - this one does not seem to have had much use. Horizontal dropouts makes it an easy conversion if required. £79 SOLD

I do not know anything of this frame’s builder or the shop from Margate in Kent. It has vertical dropouts and would I think date from about 1976. It certainly needs repainting but the price reflects this. £49

Raleigh produced many frames in the very attractive Team colours in the 1970s and 80s but the nice ones were only made in small numbers. This is one of the Team Replica frames produced in the Lightweight unit after it moved to Nottingham and was built in 1984 - it seems it was sold in 1985 as it has the Reynolds 50th anniversary tubing decal on the down tube. These were built in small batches to order and were made from Reynolds 531C tubing. This one is in sound condition though the paint has suffered a little. Careful retouching would make this frame look quite presentable. It would make a very easy singlespeed or fixed conversion. £89
