Hi - I'm just another baby in the nursery. Need to find a couple more threads to bore folks on apparently. I wanted to buy something and I want it NOW! Guess I'll have to wait till tomo.
Gotta get building ready for the better weather (I am a native Londoner and I still get wet) -

Hi everybody.
I'm waiting to escape the nursery, writing my 3 posts. But i'll start my research already from this one.
I'm an Italian engineer, I'm planning to leave Milan, the city where I live and work, and move in London. Here I'd like to start a new job as a bicycle mechanic. I started working on bikes since I was a child, together with my grandfather. Now bikes are my passion. I have no "professional" experience, but i can say i know bikes very well.
Do you have any suggestions? places and shops where i can ask? any important prerequisite?
As soon as i can, I'll post a new thread about this.
Thank you for your help. -

Welcome Mandyrion.
There are a few mechanics on here so they can probably help you with concrete advice.
My understanding is that most shops will take on people who can demonstrate competence and it sounds like you have that. There are qualifications for bicycle mechanics in the UK but I think most employers will support you in getting those as you work for them.

Thank you andyp. That sounds great!
I red about a Cytech qualifications, but in cannot be obtained in London, if i'm right.
Clearly I think the best way is to show up at a shops for a sort of try-out.In which section should i post my thread?

I like the way the longtimers come back to this thread just to beat down on the newby posts.
Makes me feel warm n fuzzy like the protective arm of an older brother coming round me but only to punch me in the shoulder rendering my arm dead - just like a real family.
Nice... -

Probably best to post it in General so more people see it. Let me know when it's up and I'll prod some of the mechanics on here to respond.

Me; I'm just biding my time and then POW spam, spam, spam, troll, troll, troll. ha...jk ok!
In the middle of an epic project (pooch frame, half the paint stripped, flipflop hubed wheel on order, respraying myself, also going to make my own pedal straps and OMG the straps are going to be amazing!!! Soon to be taking up to my friends yard so we can attack parts with grinder and welder)
I wish I could post a thread cus the project is already looking good, modded so much already
I have pictures so will start a thread asap.

I would strongly suggest putting it in the current projects thread rather than starting your own thread. It's for the best.
