This is a nice route - pleasant out of london and then all quiet roads:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2664408 takes you as far as Winchester
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2599466 through New Forest to the Dorset hills.
I can send you my route notes in MS Word if you're interested.

Amazing - exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you. Shorter than I expected as well - was predicting 100 miles+
I'll PM you my email. Cheers.

That looks like a nice route. I was thinking of maybe doing it as well. Possibly extending it to Bournemouth. What is it like in terms of hills? Will be doing it fixed.

No unmanageable hills on that route (biggest are Charles Hill at 35miles and another at 47m) and I did it fixed. First 60 miles on 50 x 19 (70') and then flipped the wheel to 50 x 21.

I've done this too, from se London it was 120 miles in the end. Practically all minor roads, Navigating round Winchester and avoiding main roads can be a bit of a pain.

Just wanted to say thank you for your New Forest route - I finally did it at the weekend*.
- Except that due to some last minute bike maintenance issues (due to having left my touring bike in pieces over the winter and only starting to re-assemble it at 10 the night before) I had to abandon my 6am start and instead caught a train to Godalming around about 11 and did it from there instead.
And I also deviated a bit from the route around Winchester and did about 10 rather grim miles on dual carriageways, only some of it in the right direction.
And then I had to turn off to my destination South through the New Forest not long after that.
But... that aside, I stuck to your route for a good 50 miles or so and it was lovely, so thank you again.
Adrian

Has anybody done this route recently? Was planning on doing it in the next couple of days and was interested to know what it was like. I'll be riding fixed 48x16 which served me pretty well on the ride to Dunwich.
Any information would be welcomed. Many thanks.

Hi Rio. Haven't ridden the route recently but you'll be fine doing it fixed. Its mostly very quiet roads and also takes in a few very fine pubs if that's your thing. As above, I have typed up route notes available if they'd be useful. You'll have to decipher my personal shorthand in places though...
What the title says basically... anyone know of a pleasant route on quite-ish roads? It seems to be a hard one to google (because it tends to find lots of pages about cycling IN the New Forest).
Cheers
