I'm guessing one option would be to re-space the 8spd cassette using 9spd spacers. Then at least it would index properly, just minus 1 sprocket......
But someone on an old thread on campyoldy was saying you can actually get a 9sp freehub body to go on an 8spd hub. I believe this to be myth! When I google, all I get is replacement for 9/10sp modern hubs.
