Okay, latest installment. 9 speed here we come!
I just purchased a pretty cheap 2nd hand tourer with 9spd Centaur Ergos, 9spd Centaur rear mech but - get this - an Athena 8 speed rear wheel. Now the guy had been running it that way for whatever reason, he didn't have a problem with it and like I said it was cheap. But since I'm taking the gear off this bike and 'doin it rite', I wants me 9 speed block. Plus I rode it home and the shifting was shit.
So I done some more tedious browsing of campyoldy and so on, and I just need another sense check that I came to the right conclusions:
1) The hub in question, pictured below, is indeed a originally designed for 8 speed, with an 8 speed cassette on it.
2) It is not possible to simply whack a 9 speed cassette directly onto that 8 speed freehub body
3) A 9 speed freehub body is available which could be transplanted on?
If so, what am I looking for and where would I get one? It would be worth doing if poss because the Athena/MA2 combo is sweet and suits the bike.
Or am I wasting my time - should I just source a cheap 9 speed wheel.
