  • Yee-Ha!!!
    Brilliant news Clive!

  • Great news, Clive!!

  • I've never needed loctite on cleat bolts, in fact I go the other way and use copper slip to aid removal.

I use a low bond loctite to keep the threads clear and stopping any galvanic corrosion. I usually give the cleats a wiggle and a visual check to see i the bolts are loose. What else could/should I do?

  • Ace news Clive, I hope the last bit of healing goes to plan and that you are fixed up before summer is upon us.

  • Spring has sprung and your leak has finally been plugged what great news.

  • that's great news clive! I've only just read the entirety of this thread - over breakfast - and lovely to hear it's had a happy ending. maybe see you down the track even! soon!

  • Woot!

Now - we must resurrect the idea of the clive's arse ride....

  • Yay! And I'd just found a book called Leakage for Dummies that I was going to purchase for you...

  • Good work sir. Look forward to seeing you out on the road!

  • Great news Clive. :)

  • How about cycling on a turbo?

    Yes that would be alright.

    [X] mr_tom likes this.

  • Clive, god to hear you're on the mend. Keep your spirits up.

Comedy gold this morning from me:
Had a cleat fail right in the middle of the big crossing of Borough High St and Long Lane.

Me, pulling in front, then couldn't get my cleat out ... wobble wobble ... CLONK!
Must've clipped a guy standing in front of me with my front wheel while going down.
The result was ... wobble wobble ... CLONK!

I just wanted to sink into the ground ... Oh the shame!
I was very apologetic and offered to pay for any damage or anything, but all I got was a really really grumpy look ...wish someone would have laughed loudly at least.

Fished a big piece of gravel out of my cleats by the roadside, then loosened up the pedals as well just to be sure.

Oh well, at least I keep people entertained.

  • Clive, that's the best piece of news I've heard in weeks. Take it easy, enjoy the ride. See you on the road somewhere down the line.

  • Great news Clive. I look forward to seeing you on a bike soon. :-)

If it's any consolation, I probably would have laughed loudly!

  • AWESOME news Clive, gald you can get on the bike, hope to see you on the fluro steegmans at HH soon!

Thanks, yeah, that's what I am doing now when I think about it.

  • This evening the nurses were genuinely excited to see my bottom. As word spread of my improvement the sight had to be seen and in they came. One said that when I first went to them to have the wound dressed three weeks ago, she thought that I would be with them for months and she is amazed by how quick my progress has been. Two weeks ago, I could barely walk for pain. Just over a week ago, I was merrily dripping through my suit onto chairs in conference rooms. And now, things are closing in on finality. From this weekend I move to alternate days which is nice as I will be able to drive down to see my recently widowed mother on Sunday before she goes into hospital on Monday to have a skin cancer removed. I feel bad for not having been to see her in three months but a trip to Poole has been unfeasible up until now. So that's nice. I managed to keep news of my injury and operation from her for quite a while but eventually had to explain my lack of filial support and the news worried her. It will be good to reassure her that I am fine. She delayed her own treatment so as not to worry my father while he was ill.

Anyway, it got better. I got home, switched the rear tyre on my road bike to a snazzy blue one (oh that all new tyres went on so easily) set up my turbo, donned my Grupetto jersey (Grupetto tops are the only ones large enough for my current super obese state) and the self same pair of shorts that I was wearing that fateful April evening (ironically just about the only pair without a hole in them), popped on a pair of Sidis (checking the cleats first) and set up my turbo just outside in the garden and turned the Clash on loud.

30 minutes of steady riding. Not too long and I felt I could easily have gone longer but I had decided to do 30 minutes and so I did 30 minutes and it was really good. Gentle sweat, reasonably raised heart rate and no problem whatsoever from my behind. Gentle cool down after the 30 minutes. That was worth waiting for.

And it can only get better. The road on Saturday.

  • Genuine passion for the road. Look forward to turning a wheel with you some day soon Mr O.

  • Great stuff Clive. I'm so pleased you're back on the bike. Enjoy it.

Best wishes for your Mum too.

  • fantastic news mate (I have been following this this though we have not met) nice one

    also, this

"She delayed her own treatment so as not to worry my father while he was ill."

is this most selfless act I have ever heard of, she sounds like an amazing woman

  • I shall miss this thread when it's over.

Great news Clive and just in time for some decent weather.

  • Well done Clive! This is excellent news.

  • To this thread I am both a long-time lurker and first-time poster, but have all the while been quietly willing your speedy recovery, Clive.

Glad to hear all is now well and that you're nearly there.

Let your recovery be an inspiration to those who struggle for motivation after serious injury.
