  • she's only 5'1" bless her so something tiny ,

i have bits and bobs hanging around so frame or full bike considered - something just like edsobles ladies bike is the final intention

  • cream bob jackson 49cm ctc with chris king gripnut headset , with teeny ding in the top tube. would include a front brak and a short quill stem that has been lovingly polished too.

    £280

  • My solution - by a 15" DH / jump bike for yourself and let her borrow it.

    i think that could work...

sounds lovely but too pricey for her, looking at 300 complete

  • hi, i got a very nice harry quinn frame think it's 49cm, excellent paint, 531 etc

let me know if it sounds o.k and i'll get the full sizes.

  • tilover, you might want to look into 650c wheels bicycle, not 700c, as the proportion of a 650c wheels to a tiny lass is the same as a 700c to the average height person, I feel a 49cm frame will be too big for her (the missus ride a 48.5cm 700c frame and she's 5'4).

may I direct you to the IRO Mark V HD which is a 650c version design of the original Mark V for those who are under 5'3? you can get it frame only with a bit left over for 650c wheels and use the rest of your bit and bob to build it up.

  • Fuji junior with 650c wheels. that's £300 new I think.

  • i think i have sorted out with one of these... going to put white wall tyres, moustache bars and a nice lick of paint

    :D

  • that's lovely ed, just the kind of thing she would like

  • indeed. +1 for 650 wheels. junior track/racer frames, cheap as chips.

  • Hmm, junior track frames you say... I'm not too short but could run a 49 for polo. Might have to dig around for a cheapy junior track frame. Would this be crazy to run 700c wheels though, with epic toe overlap?

  • massively epic behemoth gigantic huge toe overlap.

the thing is, for a short person, they need a shorter reach, thereforth the top tube will need to be pretty short, says, 52cm or less, and because of the short top tube, the front wheel is closer to the pedal than your normal sized bicycle (depending on the geo though, some frame have a really relaxed headtube angle/relaxed fork putting the wheel a bit further away from the pedals)

    How tall are you Wicksie?

  • Yeah that's what I thought. Not fun in polo. I fall off enough as it is.
    I'm 5'6 and ride a 52 so would want a 49 / 50cm for polo.
Would prefer 700s so this could be a problem.

  • compact geo sound like the answer for you, like the On-one pompino would be a solution methinks and the frameset is pretty cheap already.

    the small one have a 52cm top tube with a 48cm seat tube;

  • Yeah good polo steads.
Way over budget however so will probably have to stick with my mountain bike shit heavy conversion.

  • @ me?
    Dropouts no good for polo.

  • that will fetch silly money, and I mean very silly.

  • the blue IRO frameset is amazing - where can you get this in london, and is it possible to get one from a shop that is part of cycle to work?

i'm having horrible problems finding a decent singlespeed bike that fits, my standover height is 720mm and at the moment the only options i'm coming up (after a lot of research) are custom builds, but short of spending £800 at BLB i'm not sure what to do? off the pegs are a no go as the 49cm frames are still too big....have spoken to tokyo fixed gear who won't do bikes with 650cc wheels.....

do i need to tie weights to my legs to stretch myself out? or opt for an ugly 24 speed lady's bike (the only off the peg bikes that seem to fit).

any help would be much appreciated!

  • If it has to be through the cycle to work scheme then you could be limited.
I bought one on this through Evans. Pimped it up with better components, sold it and built my own.
I would say that all the OTP would vary so don't rule them all out if you want an OTP.

Either way, you'll be able to get a SS I'm sure.

  • 720mm inner leg should = seat tube + cranks length + seat post height + saddle height (but then minus a bit at the end so your legs are not totally straight at the bottom of your pedal rotation, and also minus the elevation from the centre of the pedal axle to the platform)

    So instead of 720, say 700 = 490 + 160 + 20 + 50 - 20

700mm proably is still leaving you over stretched while pedalling on a 49x49, so any pedals that give more elevation (ie clipless) or thinner saddle (Toupe? or other racing saddles) might make it almost comfortable.

  • there's a really nice globe OTP bike which comes in mini.

    globe live mixte 1

Speak to Brixton Cycles as they are suppliers of said bikes and for the most part are thoroughly nice people. (actually they are all very nice)

    How about this one?

so annoyed that i missed this. the phone rang and i got distracted.

    :(
