  • Done. The guy who devised is a very experienced collision investigator, and definitely one of the good guys.

  • The questions are a bit vaige. The question about jumping the red has got to go in the very high risk simply because it says either side of the lorry. Any question about the nearside has got to be very high risk even if the RJL isnt. Odd.

Exactly. I wrote that in the comments section too

The safest option is to approach it on the outside. jump the lights and carry on your way
    Second is the pavement option
    Third is wait behind it

All the others are suicidal options for any of the lorry questions

That was pretty much my assessment and how I would behave too.

Though, if the lorry isn't the foremost vehicle in the line of traffic I'm more likely to wait behind as I wouldn't bet on passing it safely were the lights to change suddenly.

  • Yes. This assumes the lorry is at the very front of the queue

vg survey, apart from the question that assumes everyone's driven something motorbike-sized or larger.
Yeah i had to put motorbike for that. I Just put a comment in at the end saying I hadn't driven one as I don't drive.

Lorries often swing right before making a left turn. I would consider being on the pavement the safest place to be, well away from the vehicle.

Although yes the questions are a little vague, if you know the lights are going to stay red and give you time to pass then I'd go on the outside too. Although I normally just wait behind (right in a blind spot, I know).

  • incredibly tedious and badly designed questionnaire - gave up

It may be a blind spot, but you do get fair warning if the truck is going to come towards you. You also have a lot more choice and control over the distance between you and the vehicle.

  • Done, I waited behind on each, though it would depend on the width of the road amongst other things.

  • Done. Lets hope it makes a difference.

It's worth it. Honestly, a few minutes effort on your part to help someone who is trying to help us. Go back and try again.

  • Oh, and could those on other forums cross-post it there. This isn't an LFGSS survey, he wants as many cyclists to respond as possible.

  • done. but the wording of the questions is terrible and left me confused

There are also multiple sets of questions. To help ensure that your answers aren't biased by the prior questions the link above goes to different versions of the same basic questionnaire.

So there are variations in the questions that do add a little confusion too.
