  • Mmm, I nice bit of she spread whilst having a she wank.

  • mmmmmmm traffic. jam

  • Sorry to hear that. It would help to send more drivers off cycling to become more aware of the traffic

  • mmmmmmm traffic. jam

Ouch - laughing makes my left hip hurt!

I think I'll do all I can to take this further. I'd really like to see the driver 'punished/educated' with a cycle awareness course and make this the norm. I have several witnesses so I can't imagine it will just get dropped. Won't hold out too much hope.

I did make the driver cry... and felt horrible for a few seconds afterwards.

I think it would be great, if drivers involved in a collision with the bicycle were sent for a cycling proficiency course - just to get the perspective.

  • That's awful man, sorry to hear. Drivers in chiswick are shocking, they never pay attention to cyclists. I've had a few close shaves coincidentally all on roundabouts mainly by turnham green and tg station, both by drivers on the phone! There should definitely be tougher penalties and more awareness training for drivers. All the best for a speedy recovery dude

  • 'The police said I would have been in her blind spot'

FFS that's hardly for them to say! Hit from the front, and the police offer that explanation? What ever happened to 'Driving Without Due Can And Attention', or 'Dangerous Driving' or some explanation that might suggest that the twat that hit you did something wrong? Did the policeman fancy the driver or something?

Did the conversation go like this:
'Things like this can't be helped, sir. Damded tricky things to see out of, cars, on account of all those windows. Best thing to do, sir, is to apologise to the nice lady and be on your way. You wouldn't want to make any trouble would you?'

Beggars belief, you get thrown across a round about and have your bike totalled and the police suggest you were in her blind spot? Did the try to caution you for causing the driver emotional distress as well? Bah! Makes me angry.

Hope you get well soon, and a very shiny new bike out of this.

  • Don't take ibuprofen for at least 24 hours as it messes up the body's healing initial healing process

Hey DJ....why is this? i've never heard this before?

  • Hey DJ....why is this? i've never heard this before?

It stops cells committing suicide - which they need to do to start healing.

Ibuprofen - it's an NSAID - generation 1 and best avoided in general terms if you can.

NSAID v2 is what you want (Volterol gel) tho I'd still try and rely on ice to reduce swelling initially.

YMMV and 'it depends' where and what type of hurty as to what combo will work best.

  • aren't drivers supposed to be constanly checking this so-called 'blind spot' by turning their heads. like in a driving exam? hmm

  • Was just back at the hospital as I woke with abdominal and spine pain. Doctor gave me two ibuprofen, after thinking it was appendicitis. That made me laugh... I reminded him that I was hit by a car the day before. Guess they have to rule everything out. He asked why I hadn't taken and pain killers. I told him I wanted to feel where the pains were so I felt I understood my injuries more. He thought I was nuts.

The drivers insurance company have asked if I have a solicitor. I said no, though will speak to LCC about it all. They said not to worry they can help with all that. Guess the driver is aware she screwed up and I'm not dropping it. As my injuries aren't bad and I'll not be bruised forever will I even have a case?

Shittest frigging birthday ever. This is worse than the birthday my brother fed me biscuits with sand baked in them.

  • Of course you have a case!
You're having a shitty birthday (which deserves some compensation, not much I grant you) but pain is pain. What would you have done today had the crash not ocurred?
You bike is totalled, you might have damaged clothes, you may need to use public transport/taxis for a while.
Make a list of every extra penny you spend as a result of this collision and make sure you claim for them.
    Heal well!
    Happier Birthdays.

  • mmmmmmm traffic. jam

    Needless Jam is the best.

What happened to all those posters?

  • Jo

if I can make someone cry or have a nervous breakdown after they have hit me then it is a result.

    No need to feel guilt

  • Ouch - laughing makes my left hip hurt!

Rather than punished, don't you think just educating her would be appropriate, she didn't deliberately try to knock you offer your bike, she just didn't see you and agreed should learn how to avoid it happening again.

The driver probably feels awful and you are going to try and punish her either by prosecution or financially, I think this is wrong, agreed if she had shot you/beaten you up or caused injuries to you intentionally I would agree with this approach. It's a pisser that you got knocked off your bike and badly hurt, but I don't think this is the right approach.

Believe me I know how it feels to be hurt unintentionally (i was attacked in Hackney (not the same I know)) but rather than being compensated financially, I would rather than the person who attacked me was educated/rehabilitated and prevented from doing what he did to me to another member of the public. I would feel the same if knocked off my bike.

Just my 2 pence, but in my experience being vindictive does yourself no favours, it wastes your emotional energy when you need to heal.

  • @Jazzythumper - 'punished' was meant to be a joke as I can't imagine any driver would enjoy doing cycle awareness training, therefore, I would get a shit ton of enjoyment from making the driver do it.

  • Do you not think, small though it may be there is a chance that the woman who knocked you off your bike, could find this thread?

How do you think it would make her feel to see people joking about it?

  • Lordy. I feel way too knackered to even defend myself to you. I'm sorry I said anything.

  • I don't think wanting the driver punished is over the top. Even if she didn't go out with the intention to deliberately drive into a cyclist what she did do was drive in such a way that it happened. A reasonable punishment is appropriate given she took a ton and a half of car out into a shared public environment and drove it in a careless and irresponsible way. If there is never any punishment for driving in that way then then the message is as long as you claim to be upset you don't have to worry about looking out for more vulnerable road users. It would be nice if she learnt from it but I don't fancy the idea of tackling that type of driving by waiting for each careless driver to injure a cyclist so we can send them on a cycle awareness course.

I don't really care if she sees this thread and is upset by it, she deserves to be upset, she got a shock and had a bit of a cry, but she catapulted Ufrasia 30 odd feet across tarmac, she bloody well should be upset about that.

  • Jo, I've only just found this thread. That's terrible to hear. It sounds as if you have a very clear-cut case, you've done everything right, and it'll be resolved very easily on the compensation side. Shame you had such a rotten birthday! Your abdominal and spine pains sound worrying, though--don't take these lightly and insist on being checked out properly. I'm afraid I don't even know what specialist would be appropriate there. All the best for the healing!
