Machine washing a pac bag?

just checked the threads offered and this hasn't been covered, and i reckon it deserves it's own thread :)

i'm giving my pac bag to my girlfriend, which is terribly generous. what is less generous is that it was previously given to my cat to sleep in and my girlfriend is heavily allergic to the mental fluffball that is callie. i've rooted about inside the bag and can't find a care label- even if there was one it's likely faded to the point of uselessness or fallen off.

anyone ever done this? checked pac's site and the instructions don't have anything on there.

any help/suggestions (bar the ridiculous :P) appreciated :)

ps. i'd ask on the courierenger side about this sort of thing but most of them have no idea what a washing machine is let alone how to use one ;)

Ha! True enough.

Why not vacuum the inside of the bag, you'll get as much of the hair out.

oops! still not a definitive answer, though the shower idea could be goer. funny that the forum title search didn't match the key word "washing".

They are all hipster fixie skidders on here so "washing" would not show up on a search ;p

Cleaning procedure for PAC bags

If you have just some small topical dirt spot cleaning is recommended. I have found that plain dish soap or Wisk (Wisk is great for grease) works well for this. Make sure you get all the soap rinsed off or else you will find that the soap residue will attract more dirt.

If you need a full over all cleaning you can either hand wash the whole bag in a large sink or bathtub, or machine wash on gentle cycle?
HAND WASHING IS MOST RECOMMENDED SINCE IT IS MUCH LESS ABUSIVE ON THE BAG.
With either hand or machine-washing first remove everything from the bag including the padded back. If hand washing fill your vessel with warm water and soap put the bag in and swish around. You may have to change the water more than once if you bag is very dirty. If you have any stubborn stains you can use a scrub brush with a bit of extra soap. As wish spot washing make sure you get the entire soap residue rinsed out.
Hand dry ( outside in the summer, or over the bathtub when it is colder, it will drip for awhile)
If you are machine washing put your machine on gentle cycle. Machine washing can cause a lot of wear on your bag, you can image how much abuse you put it through over the years and then image it being tumbled and swished around in the machine.
First remove everything from the bag as in hand washing (including the padded back) and turn the bag inside out. If you have any grimy spots you should spot treat it with some pre-soak ( I like Wisk best for grease). If your have some odour issues I would ad some type of product like Fabreeze to the wash Put the machine on Gentle selection (if you have that option), fill the tub up with warm water and put the soap in and get it swished around before you put your bag in. Make sure your shoulder strap is not looped around the agitator. When the cycle is finished hang dry your bag (I usually do this outside or in the tub, the water takes quite awhile to drip out, I usually leave it overnight.
Once its all dry turn it back inside right, put the padded back in and that’s it.

Probably a good idea to wrap the bag in a pilowcase or duvet before Machine washing. Will save on lots of abrasion
