• right now how do i know what spoke length i need, for blb freestyle hub front and rear and 48h sputniks

  • anyone know of anywhere selling 48h profile hubs?

i bought mine last year straight from profile US, next day delivery, amazing!! laced to velocity dyads, old style 24mm tandem rim.

  • right now how do i know what spoke length i need, for blb freestyle hub front and rear and 48h sputniks

Best thing to do it just take the hubs and rims to a bike shop and ask.

  • ~286mm

  • 286mm at 4cross
    280mm at 3cross

  • same length for front and rear, left and right?

  • double-fixed, yes. actually would be fine single sided as well, just need some dishing.

  • Is it the same for front wheel as well? sorry never built a wheel before :)

  • even if front and rear hub are a bit diffrent (center to flange) it should be the same spoke lenght.
to be on the safe side you can order 287mm spokes for 4cross front. / but i dont think you need...

    try edd:

  • is 4 cross stronger?

  • it may be stronger, but not sure about that....and not sure if 4 cross is possible...i did my 48H wheel at 3cross. its strong. shorter spokes, lighter...go for 3cross. (lets see what others say)

  • fr and rear, 4x, go under under under over.

  • no "overlap" at 4cross?

over, over, over, under would be much more easier to build...much spoke bending to get under, under, under, over....

  • nope. what?? same thing, look at first inward spoke in pic ;)

  • I got some forumla's laced to spuniks 36h (4 cross) and I'm pretty disappointed in them... The rear completely buckled after one day, which wasn't even a heavy session on them! I then took them back to BLB to get trued again and then they just buckled again after some clean nose pivots... I thought they would hold up pretty well.. I guess it's time for some chuckers.

    really surprised by that
heard a lot of good stuff about sputniks

  • ^^ That's exactly why I got them.. Formula's seem to be pretty decent and I've got DT Swiss spokes, so it must be buckling because of a weakness in the rim.

  • my first thought was "weak hubs" but that is fair enough that formulas are decent-ish.
i've heard good things about halo hubs so if you're going to change the wheelset completely i'd go for them.
thats really wierd about the sputniks. did blb say anything about them?

  • The guys in blb said they were weak rims ("weak aluminium"), and are really only suitable for touring rather than tricks... Ahh I'm so pissed off! I need wheels that can handle a beating and now I have hardly any money left after buying an all new set-up..

  • that really is shit
yeah probably go for some chukkas, maybe some 29er rims?
what is your setup out of curiosity?

  • Already posted this on tricktrack:

    Set-up:

    Scissor F+F Medium
    Truvativ Husslefelt bars
    Volume Grips
    Azonic Equaliser stem
    FSA Pig headset
    DMR double bolt seat clamp
    Voxom bmx layback post
    Old school Velo seat
    Odyessey BB
    Gusset Pigmy 48 spline cranks
    Profile Imperial 39t
    Gusset Half link chain
    Odyessey Twisted + Holdfast
Formula laced to Rigida Sputnik 36h/4 cross
    Michelin city 47c

  • nice :)
i was going to build up a scissor but then i bought a lo-pro
maybe ask trick track what the best but averagely priced rims are?

  • halo aero warrior are cheap ish 29er rims, i would go for them

  • I think I'll just go for some Chukkers as they seem as if they can take a beating. I really dont understand why people have been saying spuniks are good; cheap and weak as shit.

  • recently bought a pair of them myself (aerowarrior) they seem alrite, haven't really given them a good beating but the back is slightly out of true thanks to my shit 180's, but i am only running 32s so maybe with wider tyres they would hold up better. They are pretty cheap and also pretty easy to find which is always good.
