I am so jealous. Which I could still come. My bike is perfect for this. I've got ultra-small sleeping bags now, a tent that is light, panniers and front rack. Grumble. Uni's should give out the assignments at the start of the term so we can do them early.

Can I come?
Yes.
thank you!

How many are coming now? Any new takers?

In answer to Dicki, I'm doing it on my tourer, with a pretty medium gearing range nothing really low.

You could do train one way so it's not taking up two days of time?
My new sleeping bag and mat are well good, I tried them out in the lounge last night and promptly fell asleep.
I'm going geared but only cos I've got an appropriate touring bike and it makes more sense to use that than to mess around with p clips on my Soma. I did the recce both ways fixed and it's fine.

I'm gutted i can't make this.
It's due to unforseen work reasons that require me working untill it's up & running through the weekend*.
*justifying my reason to scott

The clips all the way to the back, and the panniers right at the back of the rack?
you were right. the panniers were not right at the back.
now they only clip my feet when i am decelerating, which i can live with.
i got a sleeping bag and mat today. all set!

Ah, good. You get used to the feet clipping quite soon (mine are fine when they're far enough back but sometimes I am lazy and don't put them far enough back and then can't be bothered to adjust them).
Panniers are brilliant. I need to get some front ones.

Fixed too, have no choice.
Now, with all this thinking about being minimal .... mudguard or not mudguard?
-

Mudguard.
-
• #590
If you think about mudguard/toothbrush/towel etc it is not minimal any more ;)
Guys and dolls, I will be waiting for you at Tootin' Broadway. Cannot wait! :)

^took note
The tourer set up. note the thermarest camping mat acting as a rather fetching top tube protector:
Great plan!... think you have room for an extra one in there, ...just kidding.

Two bottles of whiskey and veggie burger, that's minimal. Anything on top of that is just being silly*.

burger goes not fit into minimal plan also :]

Trying to pitch a tent indoors is fricking impossible! Been cursing like a camp chef. It needs pegs into earth to allow enough tension. Gaffer tape didn't work, tins of beans failed; have now shifted most of the furniture to stand on the guys. Flat looks like a storage facility and (wimper) it's way past my bedtime!
Travel lodge for me, I'm tellin' ya. -

I'll be riding a single speed CrossCheck, once I've paid Hillbilly for his Brixton Cycle skills in fitting 'German pensioners handlebars', tomorrow night will be pannier fitting surgery.

I am feeling a bit hypocritical for insulting the Tweed Run for forcing everyone to spend loads of money on tweed. Still, hopefully lots of people on the ride are now better equipped for future touring adventures. I know I am.
It's now close enough for Metcheck to be more or less accurate and we have sunshine and blue skies on both days, no rain predicted and temperatures of around 10 degrees during the day and 4 during the night. Which will make it the nicest weekend of the year so far :)
yay
fixed it is then, but with a front brake
