Hamish, I think it's worth popping down to your local bike shop and ask them to check the bike to see if your handiwork is sound, worth doing before you go riding frankly.
another thing to invest in - track pump, and you don't need to splash out for an expensive one, just one that you can pump to 100psi easily.
