Definitely yes in the case of Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL, Hed Jet 4/6/9, etc. etc.
Maybe not on those old Mavics, I haven't seen any data one way or the other, although John Pritchard had some at the same time as I was using the CX18 without the fairing, and he was faster than me :-)
