How about one of those oldie wind up gramophones strapped to a strong bike rack?
The needle might jump a bit on the speed bumps but great for awesome wheelies! -

dicki, buy a cheap laptop and an mp3 player. then, if you really want something 'walkman'-like buy a minidisc player.
diable, i tried converting a tape to mp3 last night using garageband.... really low input volume and shite quality. why?!?!?!??!?! (note: i have done this before years ago and it does work, can't work out what i am doing wrong!?!?!?
I use an iMic (not a bearded Irishman who drinks Baileys) adapter and Final VInyl to copy to a wav file I then used Switch to convert it to MP3 seems to come out ok

i also want to get some vinyl onto the mix tape how easy is that onto an mp3 player ?
My iMic allows you to connect a turntable to it and you can copy your Vinyl to a PC via a USB port, not sure how it sounds like as I have never tried it myself.
The only vinyl I kept are my favourites like New Order's Blue Monday on 12" and Grand Master Flash's White lines picture disk 12" as I now suffer from tinitus from too many gigs and every day to me is like being at the sea side ;p so quality of sound is not too much of an issue for me now.

it is all very well avoiding common items and big marketing but in some cases it just ain't sensible. for example, if you want a decent sports bike (motor) then you have to go to a big japanese manufacturer pretty much.
anyway, for all apple's faults (and they have many) at least they are competition to microsoft - they deserve support for that alone.
i did try to find an alternative to an ipod but basically ipod is industry standard if you want a high capacity mp3 player - or at least it was when i bought.
is sound quality that important when you are on the move (eg cycling, driving etc etc). i'm all for an expensive stero and great sound quality but you ain't gonna get that on the move.
my ipod hold over 10,000 songs, rarely jumps, lasts 15 hours on a single charge and fits easily into my jeans pocket. an the sound might not be perfect but i've never chewed up an mp3 and it doesn't hiss. or degrade.
i am all for using simple reliable high quality old things - but not at the expense of huge amounts of functionality.
you're like someone with a decent quality 80s steel made single speed. fair enough, you do not see the point in paying £600 for a specialized hybrid - it is not going to add anything to your commute. but given that you're about to tour the pyrenees i can't help but say 'join the 20th century and at least get some fucking gears!'

who was it that adorably turned up to SE beers with a walkman one night a few months back? I exclaimed about how radical it was to see one again.
