By eliminating any pre-2000 bikes parts all I need is a good set of allen keys.
All murtle needs is a hammer and screwdriver.
All scherrit needs is a dremel
All ed needs is a video camera, bike forum and Condor Cycles
All tommy needs is an inch square of gaffa and a swiss army knife

The BB Cup Remover sounds like a gift from god.
And zip ties are useful for truing wheels if you're too tight for a proper truing stand... :)

talking of truing stands, i have used my fair share of shitty truing stands, including my current (admittedly its the basic one) park tools one. i still find it easier to true in frame with thumb on brake blocks. who knows of a quality wheel truing stand and where i can get it?

in terms of my favourite tool, probably my cotter pin remover- a huge copper mallet with THOR stamped on the head in big letters!

Speaking of wheel jigs, this Marcel Duchamp tribute also doubles as wheel jig and bogroll holder. It also allows me to build wheels whilst on the bog.

You see how the SJSC banner has switched itself to tools on this thread. Bloody clever them yokels in Zummerzet!
-

See, the very fact you need a cotter pin remover makes me cough a little sick into my mouth.
I just hope for everyone's sake you are at least 65 years old. Cotter pins.. fark.. -

Hippy, I have about 20 bikes, and they are divided about 50/50 between cotter pins and square-taper. Being in the trade, and therefore immune to marketing shite, i havent gone external or hollowtech. I might go splined by about 2020, cos they will be becoming classic by then.
(Newest bike, 2008 Airnimal, No other bikes post 2000. Oldest bike 1898 Gentlemans Roadster).
Maybe my name should change to Retrogrouch? -

Maybe my name should change to Retrogrouch?I think so retro and please don't put external or splined bb purchases down to marketing hype. Don't even go there. As a cottered crank user from 20 years ago, those little fuckers still haunt me. Pieces of shit that are ok on a classic build but I would rather remove a testicle than have them on any of my bikes now.
Soon I will complete my phasing out of square taper and my life will be complete.. until the next upgrade path of course.

...and Im not 65. Not even close. Maybe I'll keep the current name, cos it does feel like I belong to an earlier age.
Now you must excuse me while I dubbin my saddlebag and adjust my flint-catchers.
I mustn't forget to get a new wick for my headlamp, too. -
• #23
Now flint catchers... they are frickin cool.. I wish I had some of those for the Chilterns and thinking about it.. most of London now all the roads are fucked. Always loved that idea. You can Dublin your saddle sores by yourself though.

This is my idea of a modern bike, and no I din't get those saddle sores neither! WNBR 2007 (Yes its me).

Ive just been moaning on another thread about s**t tools, so heres a couple of thoughts on those tools Ive been fortunate enought to discover in my prof capacity.
1; The VAR 'third hand' caliper brake tool. The grand-daddy of third hands, a masterpiece of engineering. mmmmmm
So what are yours??????
