I always felt safe riding to and around Melbourne (from Geelong... perfectly safe until you get past Torquay, THEN it gets just a bit dangerous), apart from the westgate bridge, where I'd get blown about and drivers attempted to drive through me constantly. Apparently they finally finished the freeway, so I wonder what it'd be like now...
Used to be rewarding 10 years back... ride hard to Melbourne from Geelong, almost get killed on the bridge, absolutely hammer down it and practically freewheel to St Kilda pier for some Rex Hunt fish'n'chips
