  • I've been listening to 6 music from day one (lucky to have it on all day at work) and it provides an invaluable service to the music industry, and I have been introduced to so much music that I would not have heard otherwise. Several heavyweights (inc David Bowie) have given their support and Cerys Mathews gave a BBC exec a really hard time on the breakfast show last Weds as did Sian Williams.

So the good news is that the protests are having some effect as on thursday one of the board of trustees stated that the trustees might rethink the proposals following the high level of support from the public so it might not be over just yet!! And the closure will not happen until 2013 in any case so there's plenty of time for this to be reversed.

Whilst some of the shows did go off the wall (especially G.Lamb - although he was quite funny) generally what other station plays real music and gives a platform to new and upcoming artists? Mumford and Sons owe their exposure to 6 Music and are now enjoying success in the US! 6 Music only uses about 1% of the overall radio budget but the ratio of cost per listener is the problem. But s long as it's a digital only station the potential audience is restricted to those with DAB or use computers so more advertising is needed to expand the audience base.

Steve Lamacq and Liz Kershaw my personal favourites.

Does anyone here remember the original XFM before Crapital took it over? What a shame if that was the only alternative!!!
