i am just going on record to say that i am doing this on my geared bike. i don't have a fixed bike suited to night riding following the death of the Copacetic so will most likely be using gears on a lot of the TNRCs. i reckon low 60s will get you up Whitedown. i have done it on 70 a few times before but the last time was three years ago and i vowed i would never grind a gear like that up it again.
by the time we are at the top of whitedown we are less than 15 mins from the station. no harm in walking up some of it if you have to. better that than not ride at all. it's a lovely route.
