What do you need it for?

I have one of those blue sony ones. The true peak of walkman tech.. looks new.
To be honest, as a product geek I probably get more enjoyment out of staring at it than the £2 a walkman would be worth these days.

dfp / arash / retro
hi guys please could you list the make and model number of your offerings i will take one of these from you i just want to check rteviews on line before making my final descision
i am going to use this as the source for a portable sound system that can be towed behind a bike
cd's can get bounced around a bit -
• #8
i reckon there might be another avenue that you have yet to explore with regards a portable music player
-
• #9
If its a portable system why do you want to rely on tapes would it not be better to just get an MP3 player?
-
• #10
something digital ?
i am more of an analogue person to be truthful -
• #11
10gig mp3 player would be better
-
• #12
I thought it would be hassle to carry around a load of tapes as quality deteriorates and they are cumbersome. Stop living in the past dicki, I am busy at the moment converting my GF's tapes to MP3

still not 100% convinced by newer tech
have an slr 35mm camera which i travelled all around africa for 15months with and is still going strong
bought a cannon ixus 4MP camera which laster a year dropped it once miniscule bit of plastic broke of and rendered it completely useless
shite digital modern crap
a digital source would, i fear be broken in a year -
• #14
Thats what my uncle said when cassette players came out and he was still using his reel to reel and plate camera ;p
-
• #15
so why is this forum full of people going bandie legged at 30 year old bikes ?
i thought modern day stuff was better quality / easier to ride / better components ???and my marantz casette deck is feeling very left out currently
i think i need to be more inclusive or my hi fi might just get up and walk out ( bet you don't get that options with a 2000's bit of digital technology ) -
• #16
Some old stuff is better most of it not as I wouldn't buy an Allegro to drive.
-
• #17
maybe not an allegro but one of those vanden plas's yes
all that chrome, walnut panels inside and a little fold down table in the back of the front seatsclassis car hmmmm

Keep you tapes and vinyl and get am MP3 player for portability/conevenience. You won't regret it.
-
• #19
i think mp3 players are better for mobility, their more compact and have longer battery life comparing to tape players. and you'll get a better sound quality then tape, not like you'll notice much difference on mobile sound system.
then it comes to quality, i wouldn't play mp3s when djing, vinyl only.
so my choice is mp3 on a road, and vinyl at home or out djing.
you should choose what siuts you better. -

maybe i can hook up a pair of technics sl-1200's to my portable rig !! mix on the move
have been looking at mp3's DO NOT WANT iPOD due to their heavy marketing and the fact that everyone has one
have been looking through the hi fi forums ( zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ) to find out what MP3 has best sound quality sony Iriver cowon
does anyone have one that they rate ?
will be buying a pair of those grado headphones to listen to source with they are meant to be very goodi bet a sony professional walkman with good quality new tape would sound better than an MP3 player
was listening to my vinyl just the other night and it just sounds so nice compared to cd's which can sound a bith thrashy tinnyi also want to get some vinyl onto the mix tape how easy is that onto an mp3 player ?
-
• #21
i also want to get some vinyl onto the mix tape how easy is that onto an mp3 player ?
Pretty straight forward. Just line out of the mixer into a computer and record it. then put on your player. That said, i am in principal behind you with the analogue thing, but convienence comes in a disposable digital form these days it seems.

Yes iPod is poo for sound. Signal to Noise is rubbish. And it will show if you use the headphone socket to connect to the rest of the system.
Sony product much better for SQ. But it's all down to the original encoding really.
My old car use to use an iPod with the digital line out (dock connector) to the head unit/processor and was only ever fed uncompressed* source material. The sound was indistinguishable from a CD
Anyways, Tape based walkmans use too much battery and as you know the original tapes will degrade. MP3 player = Solid state, no moving parts, low power consumption.
*as uncompressed as a a CD gets anyway...

Hi All ,
Am after a walkman. Yes one of those things that plays old C90 cassettes. Higher end ( sound quality ) prefered.
What have you got. Check my parts thread and have a look see if there is anything you want to barter for ?
or can anyone point me in the direction of a sony professional walkman for sale currently ?
