Thanks for the info guys.
@ smallfurry - currently he's actually using flat bars and a fricton thumby like that for his rear, but can't get the hang and really wants indexing. If it were me, I'd stick with 7-spod and downtube shifters, but there you go.
@ loafheads - I has read about this, but I am always reluctant to tread the path of the bodge. Plus he rides majority of time on the hoods.
At least I have a few options for him now. Ta!
