This is a good point though:

What constitutes a dangerous shot? Is a hard slapshot where the ball hits a bit of grit and sails high a dangerous shot? Is a shot from a ball which is bouncing and therefore chips upwards a dangerous shot?

I got one in the head yesterday (from a lifted ball, from a joint)... not too painful, but the very act could have sent the mallet towards my eyes etc.

It was dangerous.

I think for this tourney, this rule is a good one!

What if a team lobs the ball (Perfectly safe skill by the way) to a team mate who scores from it whilst the other guy is tapping out?

I disagree. Maybe some people can do it without a head-high followthrough, but I think most people who (try to) lob it may have a huge followthrough and not much control. I could be wrong.

The no overhead height rule is very much situation/location based. We're playing on a compact court in a highly populated area with hopefully plenty of spectators new to the sport. Added to this are a lot of shops fronts, tables, windows etc close to the court so we're going to be trying to keep the ball on the ground as far as possible.

As with all rules, it's up to the players to take them on board and play sensibly within the restrictions those rules may impose.
If people start hammering shots in from close range that clearly cause a danger to the public and surroundings then I'll be having a word with them.

With 8 of London's best teams playing in an exhibition tourney, I'm hoping there won't be much reffing to do.

Seems fair to avoid overhead passes given the situation, but, what about really hard shots that bob over the barriers? They are going to be travelling twice as fast as any lob? Seems a bit I'll considered to me.

I don't know if this necessarily applies to the circumstances of this tourney, but I have felt for a long time that any lob that lifts the ball over top-tube height encourages players to start slashing their mallets in a dangerous way.

Maybe not a discussion for here, but we either

a. ban lobs over top-tube height

or

b. ban mallets above top-tube height

b. might be the better option.

The rest of the world allows lobs and airplanes, cutting it out of the London game is short sighted.

Lobbing itself doesn't require too much skill but the act of controlling this ball is another issue.

I meant that I understand why the rule was desired for Saturday.
