A warm welcome

  • Last Friday, while admiring a lovely JRJ outside the Windmill in The Cut, I was greeted by Skully, and invited to join for a pint while awaiting the start of CritMass round the corner. the Mass was duly missed as others showed up, and an informal LFGSS pub meet gathered momentum.
It was my first 'live' encounter with forum members, and I just wanted to say thanks for making me so welcome. Even if I had to eat most of the communal hobnobs myself!
I'll hopefully see you all again soon. Tweed run? Polo?
Andy (was on the brown Bob Jackson).

  • Was great to meet you too, Andy... Make your presence known when you're back in London, we can do it all over again...
    Joe (white Holdsworth Zephyr) x

  • who says this place is nasty?
aye, hes a good one that Skully.
    welcome from me too.

  • Sorry Joe, I sholud have said "While admiring....AND a lovely white Holdsworth", cos it is! Next visit mid march for a week, then over easter, then possibly permanent. Now what am i gonna turn into a polo mount?

  • Welcome, Borntoolate. Glad you had a good time with us.

I fell over just after leaving the pub. Deary me, four glasses of red was not a good idea before nine, with no hobnobbage. The bruise has only just come up a week later.

Keep us posted on what you're doing in your work, I didn't really get to hear enough about it! Excited to know you're advising for some London councils on this. (Borntoolate help found the York cycle-recycling project).

  • Welcome, Borntoolate. I wasn't among those at the pub, but it occurs to me that a better username might be Joinedtoolate. :)

Are you moving to London? We desperately need more bike recycling projects here. Somehow, they haven't really taken off. A lot of people are interested but I think they don't quite know how to go about it. Are you planning to start one here?

  • Thats the idea. Im in talks with 4 boroughs at the mo. I emailed them all, and these ones had alrady thought about it, but really didnt have a clue whats involved. It's a full time job, and you cant go at it half-assed. Im offering my services as a consultant to get them off the ground, and will probably start one myself if one of the boroughs agrees some start-up funding. Mechanics and volunteers will then be sought!!!
The rest is a 2-hour conversation, and several pints worth (not too many reds in Skully's case!).
Catch up soon, eh? Should be down in 2 weeks, for a week. Will post, and turn up for the advertised 'beers'. or maybe a polo match.
Sadly i missed registration for Tweed Run. Boo - I have the Edwardian path racer and the tweeds, too.

  • It might be worth getting in touch with the London network that's interested in bike recycling. You could start with Thérèse at Bike Yard East:

There are quite a few people who could be interested in turning it into a job but haven't managed the central effort to get it together.

  • Thanks, I'll do that. I go past there on one of my regular errands to Columbia Road, so I'll get in touch. Did Therese used to work at Velorution a few years back? Designed the Scorcher? Or am I all off course again?

  • Well come to our many drinks and you'll stupidity and merryment that will make you cry with laughter,

You're thinking of Therese Bjorn. This Thérèse used to work at Mosquito and London Fields Cycles.
