  • Hi guys,

I'm from Montreal and I will pass the next week-end in London... I will not have lot of time to go in a lot of bike shops but I ask you to point me the best one for you... ( downtown or close )

I'm not looking for the shop with the perfect collection of every 2010 pure velodrome stuff, but more a cool shop playing with track frames or fixies, polo friendly, and cool staff...

    Thanks in advance
    Victor

  • sounds like tokyo fixed, shop 14 or brick lane bikes is what you are after

  • shop 14 and blb are within a minutes cycle of each other
tokyo fixed a bit further afield

  • I'm not the biggest fan of either of the shops, but it sounds like you should do both Brick Lane bikes and Shop 14. If your visiting the city on foot, they're only 5mins walk from each other along brick lane.

  • If however you're staying in central London (tourist?) then Tokyo Fixed is a damn fine shop.

  • In one day you could get to all of the boutique shops in London, even if you decided to walk backwards.
You should also visit some museums.

Definetly go to tokyo fixed gear, i prefer it to brick lane bikes and bike 14

  • Me too, Way more fun.

I should also mention Condor... I was there yesterday and they have shedloads of great stock in. They're really filling that new shop.

I agree with John about museums though!

  • I love TFG, it's a good alternative to Tour De Ville who closed down sadly, fantastic stock from the hip hop slave bike to the randonneur.

  • I went into TFG for the first time the other day. Got a nice t-shirt. Some good stuff but overpriced. Like most things though. I don't remember the last time I actually purchased a bike part from a shop and not online

    Evans price match?

I think one should remember that shops simply have to sell at the RRP, online shops however are generally selling things well below the RRP.
So yes compared to online prices all shops will seem expensive in general.

  • Online shop make it harder for small businesses to continued.

I try and shop at actual brick and mortar building as I possibly can (especially local independent shop), even though I would save something like £5-10.

    Not really though is it.

  • I was hoping to get a look in TFG on Sunday but they were closed by the time we arrived. Was pleasantly surprised by the number of retro bling geared bikes in there though, thought it would be 100% trixie tracxie fixie.

  • It's an awesome shop. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable on the parts I looked at. Great for browsing.

It depends which online shops though, wiggle and parker for example have a stupidly low prices, and work on low profit margins but a high turnover of sales.
Hubjub for example though sell things for a fair price however, and for many who live outside london a site like hubjub is the only place where they can purchase fixed gear componants.
After all even tokyo fixed have an online shop, i see an online shop as a way to open your shop to others who otherwise would not be able to visit.

  • In fact it's cheaper than when they first started, anything will be overpriced if you shop online.

  • Halfords.

  • Halfords.

haha yes definetly, i have also heard that argos have a decent range of bikes.

  • Evans price match?

Oh yeah. The last thing was a set of rollers at Evans, and a tyre
