Downlo...
you bought that thing about a week ago...
you got a fucking steal...a total steal...that guy hadn't got a fucking clue what that frame was worth and it looks like you haven't either...
I know it sounds especially harsh, however it's not meant to be...honest, you just beat me to the frame you bought by about 3 minutes and I was absolutely livid....and it is an especially pretty and rather rare frame, and in the condition you got it... with 50 years of wear and tear is hard to find, usually they have been painted or bent, or cracked or rattlecanned or restored or powdercoated...and not just left as they should be to acquire another 50 years of history to the paint they left the factory with...
if you'd like to sell your frame...I'll give you seventy quid...hows that sound...? and as an aside...don't paint the damned thing either, the paint just needed a t-cut and a polish the patina was beautiful...
Jebus and all his little wizards...save us...
rant over...
peace.

It's a lovely frame. And a tarc one too.
Now I regret I went for that FH Grubb. -

Thanks so much for that info. I had no idea. I've managed to get some really nice Holdsworth track forks from retro di corsa too.
I was going to have it repainted but will take your advice and leave it. -

Plus it is a path frame which adds to its desireability...but put this into context in Cambridge a bike shop is selling a 'track' frame made from 531 LE with cromoly DB forks [not 531] inc headset Nitto stem and a seatpost all for the not inconsiderable £550. Ok this one is new but it has no history is not a Claud Butler and is £350....history comes at a price especially when it is *good *history!

There is absolutely no excuse to repaint an old frame (unless of course there are repairs to be done or it's been repainted already)... I still well up when I think about the day I had to get my Mercian refinished... Criminal... Lovely frame...

That paintwork will last much longer than any powdercoat by Armourtex or Mario's job.
The only thing to do is to treat the rusty bits. -

downlo, where do you live?
If you want you can pop round to mine and I will give you the frame rescue 101 course.
Basically you attack any bits that are ok with a dremel and a tiny wire brush, worse bits with a battery drill and a slighly bigger wire brush, treat them with rust killer or rust neutralising paint and then you touch them in with yellow filler primer, nib them back and touch them in..with red paints to darken you use a little blue, and to lighten a little orange...
when they have dried the paint might have sunk so you ad more paint and eventually it will be proud, leave it for a week or two to harden and then cut them back with 800 paper and then t cut them in...always t cut the frame first...though don't use silicon polish...as it can fish eye the paint.
**
sorry to hijack the thread...though it is staying top of the pile this way...someone buy this amazing frame!!!!**
halfords do good car paint which is maybe £5 a tin...it's durable and hard wearing and they have a good range of shades, and they will accept lacquer, whatever you do don't use graf paint(ie molotov or montana, they are wall specific and don't harden properly and you can't over paint and they go mental if you then add 'real' paint, they pickle to fuck)...anyway...you then get whatever is closest to your bike... and then away you go...use cheap make up brushes to touch in they are cheap enough to throw away though good enough to hold there bristles.

You mean to colour match your holdsworth fork? That will not be easy...
Powder coating is out, you will never match the frame with RAL colours. Could you go to Vaz with both your frame and fork and seek advice? Don't let anyone convice you to respray your frame anyway! And see you in HH in spring as discussed last week! Good luck with your built!Loic

please don't repaint that frame, just touch-up the rusty bits.

It will take either 700c or 27" wheels. I'm based in Middlesbrough hence why the frame would have to be posted
