• looking forward for this, hope i can make it.

  • Good price, front light not quite bright enough for the real dark section but we'll be slow through that bit.

Don't forget to support you LBS and save the high street!

I used that for my L2B runs and it was fine, I paid full price for it though ><

It's a bright light suitable for 90% of the journey. There is that section through the lanes where there is a lot of trees and it get's pretty dark indeed. I'll be using some rechargeable mega light with a billion lux rating*

  • I'm interested in this, need to figure out the logistics of getting to the start and getting home again from the finish. I assume everyone will be getting the train back to London's famous London?

I need to get me one of those for night-time MTBing, any recommendations? Remember, I am a student...

  • yes. that section is pretty dark....

arducius: yep train back, though i'm sure some nutters will want to cycle back. i might be tempted to cycle some of the way back.

First train back to LDN is at 6.45 i remember, well something like that anyway. Traintickets can be discounted on the return if you buy tickets in groups of 3 or 4

Mick - i'll be probably using this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/NiteRider_MiNewt_Mini_USB_Front_Light/5360038148/ this is a great deal at wiggle by the way. Not sure i could sell you one at this price unless a few people want one

oh, hang on, you would want one with a bigger battery for your endurance shit, you would have to pay a bit more for that

I have that niterider lite you linked to.

It is great but only limiting factor that should be considered for a ride of this duration is that battery life is limited to 2.5 - 3 hours, and there is no means of extending that (unless you can charge while you ride somehow), i.e. no low power mode, no flashing mode, only a bright as fuck burn your eyeballs out mode.

If I am let off from sunday morning easter egg hunt activities with my kids to come on this ride, I would probably bring my cheapo cateye to use for the lit sections and the minewt on the scary dark bits...

  • How could I forget the list?

One thing I do ask is don't sign up for the ride if you have only been cycling for a few weeks, the last ride we did was just that bit too slow due to somebody falling asleep up a hill.

    Huh?

  • yep, somebody got tired. got off their bike and went to sleep half way up ditchling beacon. waited an hour at the top. Us backstops decided to ride up the hill as we thought it was impossible to loose someone on a road with no turnings up to the top of a hill. Waited for an hour up the top

  • He didn't go to sleep, he was just very exhausted and was able to walk up the remainder of the hill after a good rest. Not everyone is used to a hilly ride like this.

  • Joe - if your doing it so am I - i need the company up Ditchling! Owen I'm happy to be a backstop - I usually do it unoffical like anyway.

So here it is, taken this long before my navigation skills are questioned. Thought it would have made at least post number 3 or 4

  • This coincides with the Cambridge to Brighton ride over the Easter Weekend. We'll be arriving on Saturday and staying around until Sunday if any of you guys are sticking around for the day.

What ride is that? Something in the Cambridge sub-forum that we've missed?
