I have put many tens of thousands of miles into MKS Sylvan track pedals, the bearings are a little rough at first but they bed in, I have them on many bikes have never had any probs, incredible value...

i've heard good things about mks gr9 but they are not double sided.
-
• #4
when you say platform, do you mean like a touring style platform, or a BMX style platform?
-
• #5
touring

Oh if you find the bearing to be shit on your pedals, you can replace and regrease them and it'll be like brand new again (if not better).
-
• #7
if your using clips then go for gr9 over touring surely?

+1. I use a good stiff soled shoe and the "knife edge" thing is non existent.

+2. Sylvans rule. Clipless rules harder though. :P

you will notice it when you try the Touring!
Actually it varies on your shoes now that I think about it.

this look amazing! probably not the cheapest though...exustar also have these which look nice. hard to find somewhere that sells them though

i used to have some of those exustar track pedals... the bearings are out of this world... they have four holes, instead of two, for threading double straps through too.... pissed all over RX1's in my opinion.
i think you can get 'em for around £50 on the web. -

Use worn out Chucky D's and HTFU...

If you can find a nice pair of original Suntour Superbe Pro track pedals, the bearings in those are smooth and indestructable. Mine must be 30 years old and they still run like new.
Plus the holes for toeclips are threaded so you don't need the little nuts and washers. I don't know if that is commonplace but my Sylvans didn't have that feature. -

They are just copies of the lyotard berthet pedals?
Just? I love the fact that MKS make these great affordable copies...

It's a shame though that the lip to engage with the cleat is missing...

@muleboy: try tokyo fg, they offered me some decent looking ones in black/black, black silver and silver silver for 40 or 45,-
BLB have coloured versions similar to exustars, well cheaper looking but quite ok for half the price. with sealed bearings for 35 even, but they'll need some tinkering to get them city worthy for easy clip in. (thorn is missing, so i build one)stiffy shoes however, are a bit of a requirement, i'd say.

BLB one are pretty light, but quality are not quite good, it feel a little stiff trying to screw into the cranks while other one went in smoothly (and I did try with grease).

same can be said about stiffness of thread for all the MKS touring pedals i've owned- i know its not my 75's as my dura ace spd sl's went in fine. I had a little fiddle with the cones/lock nut on my pedals today. is really hard to get the tension just right, so i went with a tiny bit of play instead of a tiny bit of stifness. will see if it makes much difference

the thing is, my crank managed to strip a little bit of the threading of that BLB pedals (luckily crank remain undamage), the metal appear to be slighty weaker (but still usable) than your typical MKS.
but it's lighter than an RX-1 though (I weight them both).

The MKS RX-1 have that too (copy of the Suntour Superbe Pro too)

Ace pedals.
These are the Cyclone, stiff as rockin' horse shit.
Shame the price... here. -

What sort of riding/bike?
Will you be riding only in the shoes or walking and riding?
Quite a lot of stuff on the forum on this topic.

well
a fixed gear ;)
49 teeth front, 17 back.mostly riding, but also some walking.
totally lost in all that stuff
so hoped to be pushed into the right direction
I'm on my second set of MKS touring pedals and I find the bearings really shit. I snapped a pair of Welgo pedals which also had crap bearings.
I want a pair with a good comfy platform (not a track pedal) which are double sided. Sealed bearings would be good.
These look perfect, but they're very pricey and the platform isn't as wide as i would like which would make it awkward to keep my straps in the right position
Any recommendations?
