    Well, gear down for starters.

    Once you have the pace up on those long country roads with no stopping and starting that gearing is fine if you keep yourself fed and motivated.

    When you get to hills, hit them as hard as you can at the begining and by the time you start to slow down you are already near the top(there are only 5 or so climbs of signifigance on that whole ride).

    I did it on that gear in 2007 and 2008 and only swapped to 47-16 for 2009 as there was a nice chainring for sale on here.
