They taught the whole green cross code thing while I was at school in the 90's
These days most primary schools seem to go for a lot of group walks, either for transport to the school (like a walking schoolbus) or walking to things like the swimming baths.
So I imagine the kids still get taught a lot about road safety while at school.
While I was at secondary school, (95-2000) we even had a a group for learning how to ride bikes on the road safely.
