thanks guys,
Yeah I'm definitely investing in a decent lock when I get a new bike.
Would you know if there's any where I should go looking for my bike? like Bricklane on Sunday for example.
cheers
Ma'n

This stainless steel and black machine was stolen last week 13/02/2010 from Broadway Market in Hackney. It was reported immediately to the police; notices have been posted elsewhere on the web and printed for shops etc. to display. I have spent hours trawling markets, especially Brick Lane. 'My other bike's fixed' so forgive the presence of gears on this one...
Though probably stripped in large part, components were/are as follows:
Cranks and derailleur: Suntour Superbe Pro
Chainring: Royce 57t
Pedals: TA 'track'
Brakes: Unbranded long dual pivots (black)
Wheels: Moulton 20-spoke 369mm with Hugi Compact hubs
Headset: Mavic
Saddle: Green Brooks Professional, matching handlebar tape
Pitlocks on both wheels and seatpost(!)It was secured with an Abus Granit X Plus U-lock to a proper bike post, around the middle of the frame. The U part had been sawn through in two places very cleanly. Obviously the thieves came prepared - almost certainly local I'd guess. Though out of visual contact I was very nearby yet heard no loud noises - any ideas?
It is unusual and ought to stand out, in a sense this is its only hope. Doubtless, I'd be appallingly grateful for any help or info. I offer full reimbursement and more on any cost incurred in recovery!! Call 07917 565501. Thanks for reading...

Somebody must have seen the thief/thieves cutting the lock, but ignored them, as it's a pretty busy thoroughfare. I use the same lock to secure my bicycle in that area (though I also have a lock on the front wheel). Looks like it's time for me to get an alarmed lock.
Best of luck getting your bike back. -

Wondering if anyone is missing a SPECIALIZED GLOBE DISC 2010 bike. If so let me know. Was on ebay and I got one of those generic admin scam letters. The pictures are down now but it was grey. Might have been innocent, don't know...

STOLEN from the HUONG VIET, ENGLEFIELD ROAD: My Black Brooks B17, chopped down to look like a swallow. I don't expect to see it again, but thought i would post here for information.
It was stolen from outside de beauvoir's famous Huong Viet restaurant on Englefield Road. I took THREE different locks, as I know the reputation of this place, and checked my bike at every opportunity. It was dumb to think the saddle wouldn't go - i'll be adding a bit of chain to the next one.
I had literally been out to check my bike about 2 or 3 minutes previously, came back out and the saddle was gone. I ran up and down streets, but no-one to be seen. Is it someone living across the road who has a view? Someone approaching from behind the restaurant (there's an alley)? Someone from their kitchens!? (sorry, paranoia!) I really can't believe how quickly it vanished. I'm considering a stake-out to see how the fuck they do it.
(In the unlikely event that it turns up; the saddle is chopped, but no wrapping underneath. there's a bit of a nick about half way along the left-hand side where I went wonky with the blade. I'd recognise my own handiwork).

Simplez.
Drive van around popular eateries with cutting gear in back.
Wear flouro jacket to convince onlookers that you are council while cutting.
Put bike/parts in back and carry on to next job.
If they can ram shop fronts / nick bronze scupltures / cut phone cash boxes then bikes are a snack.

No cutting, just a 6mm allan key. My bike was locked up to the railings inside the front garden, so it was someone ballsy enough to do it at close range, knowing the bike owner is just inside.
The main point of my post is to let people who don't already know that the HUONG VIET RESTAURANT on ENGLEFIELD ROAD is a regular spot for bike thieves / theft. It happens all the time, i should have known better, hopefully now a few other folk will too.

My bike was taken from my flat by my flat mate’s friend (who is a friend of mine). He was drunk and high on drugs at the time, having never ridden a track bike before; he took it for a ride to Soho in the early hours of the morning on the 10th February, without my knowledge.

He left me a voice mail saying it was stored safely in a hotel lock up and he would return it. Apparently he met some girls staying in a hotel, had a 3some in their room and was too drunk to ride it back. This was over two weeks ago and I have not been able to get hold of him since. His phone is off and I have no way of contacting him.

He has a past history of mental imbalance having spent time in hospital; he claims he has visions through his 3rd eye and believes that he was a samurai warrior in his past life.

I have just discovered he has been recommitted to hospital. This leads me to believe he either sold my bike and paid for two hookers in a hotel with the money or it’s been stolen because it was not locked.

I have been left with no other options but to report it to the police. It’s a very sad situation, not only because I have reported a friend to the police, but because he is clearly very disturbed mentally.

After having the bike for over two yrs i have spent a lot of time and money on it and I only just got it looking and feeling the way I wanted it.. So you can imagine how pissed off i am!
Anyway i dont have a recent photo of the finished product.. but this should help

Had my Swobo nicked last night from Covent Garden.
Standard apart from the seat which was a Brown charge knife.
Be pleased if anyone hears anything of the bike or thief. Wouild actually be just as happy if I could get hold of the Cu&t who nicked it.

It was on Southampton Street,
Two cable locks - Not the best to be honest. It was between midnight and 8 this am. Haven't got any pics :(
Is Brick Lane Market the place to try ?
Normally that's fine (and actually still fine in certain part of London, but it's best to either freelock it or lock it just to pop down to the shop.
the more you lock it up, the less inconvenience it will be when you're just popping down to the shop (like red light, the more you stop, even when there's no one around, the less inconvenience it is).
