Messenger / Courier Bags List

  • I've had a small Chrome pawn roll top for a few weeks, for commuting mainly (I love my grobag - but it's so big I just end up carrying too much stuff) It's good for certain things, but I find the lack of visibility over the shoulder annoying. The padded back is good though, and its well designed. It was however a bitch to get hold of, got Kattt to send one over from the US, but got stung on VAT as expected.

  • I find the lack of visibility over the shoulder annoying.

Don't say I'm not helpful. Homebase might have these.

  • What thoughts do you guys have on the 'Courier Rider Bag'

    http://www.michaellinnell.co.uk/index.php?p=showprod&id=453&cat=Satchels%20and%20Trays

Does it have a strap to stop it sliding round when I'm riding? Whats the general quality of it and does it have any compartments?

I thought about one of the timbuk2 bags but I really don't want to spend a bomb to start off with. Unless I can get a big one for a good price anywhere?

  • Loads of people "have one", as you put it. Long lasting and extremely good value.
But I think you have to buy a minimum of two, and its lacks stabilisation/anti-sway straps.

EDIT: There USED TO BE a minimum buy, but that seems changed now.

was never a minimum number order, orders just need to be over £50 *(which is anoying as the bigger bag comes to £45 with VAT and deluivery)

  • Interesting that two of the main features of a 'skate' messenger bag are to hold a mini-D and a pump!

  • £155! Jebus!

  • Can't find a mention of Bilobicles: http://www.bilobicles.cl/ from Chile in the list...

  • EXCELLENT find! I shall add it in moments. Can it be bought in Europe, or only direct from Chile?

    People want to know. ;)

  • If anyone is having a hard time looking for a timbuk2 in the UK have a look on the US ebay. I managed to pick one up for a steal and it arrived in a week and a half.

. . . my Spanish is dire; but judging by the snaps they look sensible & fun. Do you have one yourself? . . & if so what's it like & what are they like to deal with?

  • No, sorry, don't have one myself - stumbled on the site after searching 'messenger bag' on Flickr...

  • ...and another one: Transient Bags

  • Anyone know anything more other than what is on the website about the bagaboo eco messenger bag?
I did a brief scan of the pages on this thread to see if anything had been said, did not see anything!
    Anyone got one?

  • No?

  • Sorry propeller, I'll add it to the list though. Its a nice bag, the **bagaboo eco messenger. **

From what they write about it themselves, Bagaboo are offering it as a sort of cost effective version of their "proper" courier bags. So to me, its like a Linnel's "Postie" bag, but with a stabiliser strap, and different colour, and pockets options. Good price, though VAT needs to be added. My only quibble, is if the stabiliser strap is strong enough. Though they did say that it was not a proper courier bag, so maybe its not designed with such rigourous treatment in mind.

    EDIT:
Added R.E.LOAD to the UK section of the list (on page 1 of this thread), as they're now available here.

  • Yeah I read all the blurb about it and stuff I just want it to get to college/work and just around I guess!
Or shall I just jump up to the courier back they do...

  • Not a messenger bag but might be a viable backpack option: a friend in Seattle has one, says the large is huge but works well, completely waterproof: Sealline Urban Pack

  • ^ I have one - basic but does the job - could really do with a side strap though

  • Seems like a bargain to me

    http://www.laptopstuff.co.uk/p/Manhattan_Portage_Vinyl_Lined_NY_Messenger_Bag.htm

Was thinking about getting one of these or something similar by Manhattan Portage, just wanted a large/messenger bag on a budget. Anyone know if they're any good?

  • er....yes.....

    Ah yes, cheers.

I'll probably just go for it when i have the funds, it seems there is not much in this price range.

  • There was a deal online a while ago the large NYC messenger was going for (from memory) £25 - that's when I bought mine - for that money its a great bag
