  • Right. I'm going to weigh in on this as one of the more frequent westie.

The Greyhound is nice but there are a few things going against it.

    1. (And Most Importantly) - It is keeping people away from Wests. This is meant to be a social get together and lots of people I used to enjoy hanging out with don't show up anymore. We need a more a diverse group of regulars.

    2. There needs to be some sort of public eye on Wests. I leave early now because staying late used to mean longer chats with more people - now it just means jaeger bombs and generally stupid amounts of alcohol consumption. So I leave early as that's not my scene.

Going to Wests used to be a treat for the other forum members - now it's Souths. Back to the days of the meat pit, polo players and 30+ people every week.

Aroogah speaks a whole lot of sense from where I'm sitting, which is East. I'd look forward to start coming back over to west drinks if it changes back to the river, some pub in Shepherd's Bush just hasn't warranted the ride recently, though the weather hasn't helped. I used to love riding out to the Ship, it was a very different part of london to the usual haunts and Wests had its own identity next to the river.. even the Crabtree lacked the most appealing part, which was the water.

If I've read it right it sounds like you've got a Martin Amis novel going on at the GH now, not sure a chat about burger deals will cut it. Shame for the bar staff, it's obvious they bent over backwards to make the night work.

Go for the Ship if you can't find a riverside pub with a meal deal..
