I keep thinking I'll get some for my cross bike. I had problems last season with my SPDs getting so clogged with mud that I couldn't get clicked in. Eggbeaters are meant to be very good for remaining free of mud.
They are the only clip-in pedal I will use in the winter for this reason. stepping down in slushy roads and cycling in -10C. Everything esle I have tried seizes solid.
Not popular with couriers because of durability; but that's a lot of clipping and unclipping which may be less of an issue for amateur riders :)
