  • I'm looking to add a front rack to my shopper/baby carrying bike and i've found some nice options

    http://www.rutlandcycling.com/18105/Basil-Memories-Front-Carrier.html

which is cheap and looks good

    or
    http://www.discountcyclesdirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=10111
which is a bit more fancy. For this one though i need pannier mounts which i don't have. Since i'll be changing forks if i want to use this i may as well go the the distance and get everything i need, which includes disc brake mounts.

does anyone know where i can find a threadless fork which has both disc brake and pannier mounts - i can't find any.

Also anyone got any opinions on the two racks above?

  • Nice. Isn't the brake a bit sharp (V-lever to standard caliper). I've done it before and you can only pull the brake a mm or two before its fully on.

Some of them have adapters though so you can use them on non-V Brakes.

I reckon having a fairly long reach caliper with the blocks right at the bottom must help with this.

  • got it from SJS.

....it's pretty cool, only takes up the space that one bike leaning against the wall would.

That is so funny I just put one on order asked sjs if they do a price match as edinburgh cycles do the same one but free delivery there answer was go and buy it from them then so i did 89 quid posted should come Wednesday for my Carltons

  • Talking of which ready to build once the wheels get sorted .

  • Mate, your bike will defintely be the finest build you've done insofar.

  • White chain or blue chain?

    (joke)

  • They're like Two Ronnies...

    Quite...

So this is my first attempt at building a fixed gear bike, just waiting on a few bits & bobs to turn up, then will need to beg/borrow/steal some tools & will then hopefully have a working bike...fingers crossed.

  • That'll look nice when that's done.

  • DIY bike rack from IKEA
has to be a project for me soon

  • You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to teenslain again.

  • Mu newst project is to convert a Telfer time trial frame in a fixie for urban use. I have changed the fork (650c) in order to use a 700c wheel and get a more upright position. The front went up around 2 inches. Besides that, I am using a Nitto Periscopa (+35 degrees) and long quill stem to get a more confortable position to ride on streets. However when climbing on hilly streets the stability is compromised.

Any suggestion for improving stability and maintaining the confortable position. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you want to do this?!
You might be compromising the geometry to the point of material fatigue, no?
Can you take a picture of the headtube angle with 700c forks?
I remember my Lopro being already around 72degrees (HT) with 650 forks...

Yes: buy a frame which actually fits.

  • Cheers Max. More pics here

That looks fantastic. Very custom indeed :)

How much extra was the internal brake routing?
