I've got one and the answer is fuck all. The leather is thick and it's a bag within a bag so by the time you get inside they ain't exactly roomy. However, they're enough for basic stuff.
They are lovely though and I keep a multitool (a rather large Topeak McGuyver), spare inner tube, puncture repair kit and tyre levers in mine. You won't a get a pump in there!
I got mine purely for trinket value as I am a twee bastard, and will switch for my forthcoming Archie's Rollup for actual touring duties.
Hope this helps. If you need photographs just ask.

I have the challenge tool bag for tweed factor and a rollup for the real world.
The brooks saddle bags are things of beauty theres no mistake. Was going to get the d-shaped til I saw one in the flesh and realised how tiny it really is. Challenge is a tiny bit bigger but still not enough room to carry a phone and pump along with basic tools. -

I bought one of those and sent it back the same day. Completely useless. Getting a pump in, you have to be joking. You would be lucky to get your phone and a multi tool.

I may go for something else then, Superprecise is it possible to put some pics up with bits in, so I can get an idea.
Cheers.

I've got a Challenge bag on one of my bikes and it's 'novelty use only' in practice but I've just got a D-Shaped bag for one of my others and to be honest, whilst it's never as useful as a big bag it's still better than the Challenge.
I had been warned that they're not terribly useful but I've managed to squeeze a surprising amount in -
Mini pump (yes, you can get a very mini one in there!)
18-25mm tube
small patch kit
small multi tool
3x tyre levers
pair of latex gloves
Campag 'peanut butter' spanner
Brooks saddle spannerThat's pretty much it but much better than I was expecting.....and it looks superb! Also, a Brooks only looks right with either one of Brooks' own bags, or something like a Carradice.....modern saddle/tool bags don't look right to me....

I don't understand... the D-shaped is bigger than the challenge inside surely?

Yes, it is bigger, even with the 'bag within a bag' (sorry, I can't bring myself to use the term 'purse' that Brooks use!!)

what are the gloves for, are you a mime artist, a surgeon or a murderer?

Thanks for taking the close-up/open photos, that saves me a job!

That is such a nice bicycle.

Ok, I had decided upon the rollup but am swaying a little!
Thanks for the pics.

A Rollup is, I would imagine, about one hundred times more useful than the Brooks.
And don't be fooled... the Brooks is made in China.

If you know a leatherworker, they can probably make something like that Rollup out of leather, possibly for less than a Brooks saddle bag costs.
How much stuff can you actually get in them?
I'm hoping to get a phone, multi tool, pump and tube in, reasonable?
Also any thoughts on the bags?
Cheers
