i find that if the sole of the shoe is stiff enough, the size of the platform doesn't really matter so much - i mean, i didn't notice a difference with my shoes + ATACS or Eggbeaters, to be honest.
but, pedals seem to be a very personal choice. personally i want to try out some road pedals, because i never actually need to unclip on the rides i do, so i'd like to try them out.
