Silver is the right way.
Sandblasting is done before the repair. Afterwards it's not really necessary. Perhaps very light shotblasting. Will not harm the silver.
All it needs is filing and sanding.
Powdercoating is no problem.
Also possible is (resin) filler, but that's not an option if you want to powdercoat.
